Flot-a-tone tube combo amp in Milwaukee WI for $350

This could be a Flot-a-tone 1335R. It has all he markings of one.

Flot-a-tones are highly sought and desireable as a result of people like Billly Gibbons, Ry Cooder and the aformentioned GE Smith. These amps don't sell for the prices of Vintage Fenders or Marshalls and they won't gain that much value over time but they are well regarded - and they most definitely sound great. There are dozens of American made amps from this period (1940 - 1959) that sound great but few have the mystique of a Flot.

**************************

This is an extremely rare color Flotatone Electric Guitar or Harp Tube Type Amplifier usung 6L6 output tubes. This amplifier works great but controls are scratchy. Speaker sound is loud and clear with no distortion but I have no way of knowing if original. Still wearing the original colors of green and brown, how cool is that color combination. Carry strap does not look original. Flots are the amps that GE Smith uses for sessions in NYC, because they have great tone and are very portable. These are known for there Killer harp tone. Price is $350. Email or call *********. Best time to call is Noon- 5PM M-F or any time on weekends. If I cannot answer please leave a message and phone number and I will get back to you within 1 hour. Thank You.

1930's Stencil Parlor Guitar in New Park, PA for $45

Apparently this needs some work but it looks like a great find for anyone who loves seriously old wood and nice detail. This resembles a Stromberg-Voisinette or any of the other East Coast Italian-trained guitar makers of the period. Personally I'd love to have several more of these pre-war blues monsters. They are just heavenly.

Note: This listing in not off CL but an online classifieds listing - but they have all the contact info for the seller listed so it is easy to find.

A great guitar from the 1930s for $45! Needs a little work to make it playable. As is, hang it on the wall and just let it be beautiful. Lots of instruments in our old antiques store..guitars, mandolins, fiddles, and banjos-along with thousands of other old and interesting items.
We are located just a few miles over the Maryland/Pa border-close to both Baltimore and Harford counties. East of Shrewsbury, Pa.

Harmony Rocket H-59 3 pickup electric in SF Bay area for $400

It looks like there is an issue with one of these pickups - seller says it "needs wiring" (?) and I'd be a bit suspect about if those are all the original cupcake knobs - they look awefully white to me - but I may be wrong about that. Either way $400 is a good price for a complete H59. Not the best playing electric guitar ever but certainly one of the coolest.

INSIDE THE FENDER CUSTOM GUITAR SHOP

I found this great article and video about the Fender Custom Guitar Shop in Corona CA on a local newspapers website in SoCal and I was so impressed I wanted to share it with my readers. This is a great little peek into the world of Fender custom built guitars and the great Master Builders like John Cruz, Todd Krause and Carlos Lopez who work there.

Celebrities in the world of guitar music and affluent guitar aficionados often find their way to a low-profile industrial building in Corona in search of something very special.

In the rabbit warren of cubicles, hallways and work benches that comprise the Fender Custom Shop, one-of-a-kind and limited edition guitars akin to art pieces are crafted by master builders.

Their creations range from flamboyant showpieces with inlaid gold, silver and diamonds inspired by a peacock or a Mayan temple to distressed replicas of the original Telecasters that propelled Fender to music prominence when they were introduced by the company's founder, Leo Fender, six decades ago.

1956 Fender Strat - 100% Original - In Socal for $28K

I know what you are thinking - has Jim lost his mind? What happened to the $200 vintage guitars. Calm down. This is a bargain hunters blog and the fact is if this is exactly as the seller says then it is a bargain. Average market price for an all original 1956 Strat w/ OHSC right now is about $38K. So this one is almost $10K below market value. Just in case you wanted to add a nice vintage guitar to your 401K retirement plan (hehe).

About a week ago I went to the Vintage Room at GC in Sherman Oaks CA and played an original 1956 Strat just like this one - soft V maple neck, two tone Sunburst, all original hardware and pickups - and it was Da Bomb! The frets on that one were almost totally gone and the Maple board, neck and body had serious roadwear to the point of looking like a major relic - and they wanted $40K for it. After playing that one for 10 minutes I was almost tempted to buy it. This one looks much nicer for over 25% less.

BTW - A 1956 Stratocaster like this is a lot more stable and sexier than Google stock at $700 a share.

Danelectro Viscount Tube combo amp in OK City for $275

The Viscount was part of the 1950's line of Danelectro amps that includes the Commando, Cadet and Corporal. This one has been completely gone over electronically so it should be good to go. If looks are not your main concern and you don't expect high gain modern output this should be a terrific little amp. Great for a home studio or just gettin' all downhome sweatin' and bluesy.

Here's a nice tube guitar amp called a Danelectro Viscount. It is an amp that puts out about 12 watts with two 6V6GT power tubes in a push-pull configuration and has vibrato. I got it in non-working condition. I replaced the baffle and the speaker. There were no tube and I replaced those with good testing tubes. The tube line-up is one 6X5GT rectifier, two 6V6GT power tubes, two 12AX7 and a 6AU6 preamp tubes. The controls are volume, tone, vibrato speed and vibrato depth. I replaced all the caps and resistors. The amp sound killer and is pedal friendly.

Yes, it is not a museum piece with all the nicks and cigarette burns but it is a great sounding amp. This amp is ready to go for another 30 years. At $275 that is equivalent to cost of less than $1.00 per month. I have rebuilt over a 100 guitar amps. I know what needs to be done. Give someone (or yourself) a great vintage amp. Please call or text ***** at a reasonable time between 8:00 am and 10:00 pm. Thanks! Doug

Hoyer 12-String Acoustic in Beaverton OR for sale (again) for $350

I posted this guitar originally back on Jan 25, 2011 when this seller had it for sale previously - I suppose he didn't sell it then since he is reposting it on CL and so am I. He is asking $350 for it this time around and only wanted $300 before but it does say he is negotiable - $300 should do it.

**************************************

Wow!  Look at this Hoyer 12 string!  These are beautiful guitars. If you are not familiar with Hoyer they are one of the fine German Acoustic guitar makers from the 1950's  and 1960's.  They made beautiful sought after Jazz guitars that were very popular with pro players in Europe.  I believe that the Hoyer and Hofner factories were right down the street from each other in the same town in Germany.  A lovely instrument.

I have a beautiful Hoyer vintage 12 string Guitar. The guitar was made in Germany in the late 50's early 60's and is elegantly crafted and is in excellent condition. It still has the original hardware and feature subtle complexities that prove it to be one of the hire grade guitars of this Hoyer line. It features a solid spruce top that displays the finishing cracks common to guitars made in Europe at this time due to the resin based finish used then (not to be mistaken for cracks in the body, I have had it examined). NO separation at the neck joint OR warp in the neck and the intonation is still right on. The neck is of the three piece, three tone design which gives it a rich and well crafted look. It holds a tune very well well and has a rich tone. The frets show minimal wear, low action, and most importantly has a great sound that can only be produced by a well aged guitar. I have made a hobby of collecting guitars and have enjoyed each one. This beauty is and excellent addition to any collection.

The guitar is valued upwards at 700. I need the money for student loans and fast. $300 OBO.

Gibson Firebrand Les Paul and Silvertone amp in Dallas for $450 (Reduced)

Update 4/18/11: The Seller reposted this ad and lowered the price to only $450 for the Pair. - JC

**************************************

This looks to be a very nice deal for readers in the Dallas area (seller says he will not ship or sell to a non-local buyer). Not only do you get a nice Gibson "Firebrand" Les Paul from the late 1970's-early 80's but he is throwing in a Silvertone SS bass amp that includes a separate cab with a 15" Cerwin Vega. Maybe not a great guitar rig but your Bass Player will thank you for it. CV speakers will definitely bring down the house.

The Firebrand gets a funky rap because it doesn't really look or sound like a Les Paul Standard or Custom - but so what? Think of it more as an SG. It's a solid Walnut body much thinner than a Les Paul and made in USA with a set neck and a pair of late 70's style Alnico Humbucking Pickups(PAF style). it's a great guitar.

80's Gibson LP Firebrand-good cosmetic shape, EXCELLENT playability. Low action, sounds great (it is a Les Paul!). In other words it has a fantastic set up. I have had this guitar for 17 years and it is now time for someone else to enjoy it. Comes with what looks and feels like is a wool lined case.

With it comes a vintage Silvertone 35W Bass amp. The head fits in the lower part of cab to haul around. The speaker is a 15" Cerwin Vega 100W. I have used my Mesa head on this cab, it can take it.

This would be a great beginner/intermmidiate package for one serious about playing/learning to play. Not bigger turn-off than a hard to play guitar.

Feel free to come and take it for a test flight, no effects will be included.

Only respond if you can come see/pick it up. I will not ship this nor reply to someone buying it without seeing it. It must go to a good home.

1965 fender MusicMaster Electric in Cleveland for $395

This seller has relisted this guitar three times over the past month so there must be some issue with it (otherwise it would have sold by now). I am guessing that it must be refinished - there was no "red woodgrain" finish avail in 1965, only Red, White or blue lacquer paint. On a previous post he also mentioned "new chrome hardware" - if that is the case it could have both a replaced Bridge and tuners which basically makes this a lost cause as a collectible. It could still be a decent guitar - those short-scale MM necks are a joy to play with small hands - but with no photo to go on there is no way to know for sure. $395 seems abut the right price with all the changes but I am sure most players will just keep looking.

Norma (Japan) Viola style Guitar in Chicago for $100

I don't often highlight these MIJ Violin shape guitars because they are rather common and usually don't look, sound or play that great but this Norma is unique enough for a second look.

Norma was a relatively high end brand of the dozens of Japanese labels coming into the U.S. They usually had their own specific models and feature some neat style cues. Check out the headstock on the guitar - that is wild. And it has the oh-so-cool "N" shaped inlaid markers as well as some pretty nice looking maple woodwork. Those closed tuners are also a step above the usual MIJ import. The jury is still out on those Teisco square pole piece pickups but they have their fans. Here is a quote from one player on the Gear Page who likes them.

I've also used the (Teisco) square-pole pickups in a couple of guitars; they're under-rated, I think. Maybe a little crisper than the gold-foils — blackface versus tweed might be a useful comparison — but they sit well in a mix. I've got one in the middle position of a Coodercaster-style Strat, and two in a Hammertone Octave XII that sound better, to my mind, than the stock Tele-neck-style units.

The "slight back bow" in the neck is a matter of concern but this guitar does have a trussrod you can see the adjuster at the base of the fretboard) so who knows.

1956 Kay Thin Twin (Jimmy Reed) in Boston for $400

Probably the most collectible of all Kay built electric guitars, the Thin Twin is known as the Jimmy Reed model because he played one. Here's an interesting find. The Harmony H1239 is an "Auditorium size" acoustic similar to a Martin OOO-18 with a spruce top and Mahogany (I believe the Martin is Rosewood) back and sides. I am using recent Ebay sales of like guitars as my fair market pricing guide. I am comfortable with the price I have listed here. Kalamazoo tube amp in Boston area for $299

Kalamazoo amps are sort of hit or miss. Some people love them - I think they are just okay. This is an interesting one because it was designed a bass amp so with 7591 tubes it should be much more powerful than a more common s;tudent amp like a Kalamazoo Model 2. Also, I think two 10's is a great speaker commbination for guitar.

This is my Kalamazoo Bass 30 amp manufactured by Gibson on June 22, 1966. This vintage amp sounds great for guitar or harp in the studio or live. You may remember that classic line “Poorboy twangs the rhythm out on his kalamazoo” from Creedence Clearwater's “Down of the Corner.” Here’s one of those amps. I’m selling to move on to the next project.

See a guitar demo of the amp at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Id9frz-VPe4 . The Kalamazoo Bass 30 really shines with some preamp gain added and sounds very unique with effects in front of it. Here is a harp player blowing through a smaller Kalamazoo. http://www.blowsmeaway.com/kalamazoo.html showing the great tone that the Kalamazoo produces. To learn more about Kalamazoo amps generally here is a link: http://www.rru.com/~meo/Guitar/Amps/Kalamazoo/

On this Kalamazoo I relocated the controls to the front and added an orange plexi plate to display the tubes in operation. Here are some more details about the amp:

• I replaced the 2 “7591’s” with new JJ Electronics’ Power Amp Tubes from Amplified Parts.
• I replaced the 2 “6EU7’s” with new Sovtek Pre-Amp Tubes
• The so-called “death” cap was removed from the AC line and I converted the plug to a 3-prong grounded plug.
• The large orange filter caps (which are electrolytic caps in the power supply) were replaced with a new multi-can (from You Do It Electronics) as is always recommended with a vintage amp like this.

The speakers are the original 2 Jensen 10 Inch Speakers which sound fantastic. The cabinet is enclosed and the speakers can be connected to other power amplifiers. They roared when I connected them to my Marshall head.

Feel free to come plug in and take a listen. Thanks for looking.

1956 Silvertone Danelectro U2 in Dallas TX for $595

1956 Silvertone/Danelectro “U2” Guitar
Coral red
Serial # 1036

This guitar is not a reissue! It was manufactured and introduced in 1956. It’s a very playable vintage guitar in great condition. It’s also completely original – with the exception of the rear strap pin and two new capacitors.

According to the serial number on the guitar (#1036), combined with my calculations and research, this beauty left the factory in the second week of March of 1956. I also did a POT CODE search (both pots #1377446 (volume and tone are combined)), were made by CTS Corporation (Chicago Telephone Supply) in the 46th week of 1944 or 1954.

COLOR:
Coral Red

BODY:
3/8" thick Masonite top and back. Sides, neck and bridge blocks are constructed of a Poplar frame, stapled together. The unpainted sides are covered in a whitish vinyl material. Single cutaway, 13.25" wide. Known as the "U" model body.

PICK UPS:
The sound of a U2 is distinctive of the Danelectro guitar, coming from its lipstick pickups which when both selected are wired in series rather than the more standard parallel used today by most big brands.

NECK:
Poplar bolt-on neck with Brazilian rosewood fingerboard. Non-adjustable steel truss rod. Frets show very little wear.

TUNERS:
Kluson Ideal G-132 tuners. Original.

CONTROLS:
U2 concentric-type knobs. That is, each potentiometer "stem" actually has two controls with separate knobs "hugging" each other to control both volume and tone.

BRIDGE: Stainless steel with a small piece of rosewood used as a saddle.

NUT: aluminum

FULL DISCLOSURE:
- It’s 54 years old!
- There are some nicks on the back of the neck.
- The vinyl trim around the body shows some wear.
- I replaced the old Tootsie-Roll capacitors with new ones because the tone control was not up to snuff (The caps were old. It happens). Now it is. However, we can always put the old ones back in. I did not change any wiring configuration whatsoever! Or the original specs on the components from the factory. All other electronic components and hardware (pickups, pots, 3-way switch, tuners, keys, knobs, nut, pickguard and bridge) are original. No surface has been refinished.
- The lower half of the neck lipstick pickup cover has a hairline crack in it (this does not effect its function at all.)
- Comes with a gig bag.

Old Kraftsman (Kay) Value Leader Triple in Dallas TX for $200

Nice blonde Value leader in East Dallas TX for $200. These are very cool guitars. The hollow core bodies with no f-holes and these Kay pickups make for a great electric blues slide tone. These floating bridge solid bodies are a little funky for any modern style playing but if you know how to set them up and make them sing they can be a blast to play.

IMPORTANT NOTE TO ALL READERS

I am reposting items here that are listed on CRAIGSLIST throughout the USA. I am not selling any of these items and I cannot facilitate the sale of anything here - so please do not comment or post questions like "Is this still available?" or "I am interested in your guitar please call me, etc." You need to contact the seller directly by calling the phone number listed on the post or by going to the CL listing and emailing them. NEW FEATURE: Click on the title of the CL Listing inside my post to LINK thru to the original Post. If the original CL listing is deleted the item most likely is no longer available. Thanks for checking out my blog and GOOD LUCK!

Please don't call, contact, bother or harass these sellers long after their post is expired. Take for granted if the listing is over 30 days old that the guitar or amp is LONG GONE! Thank you.
