Orpheum (Kay) 1950's neck thru electric guitar in Long beach CA for $500

This seller is offering an Orpheum single pickup electric for $500. These Orpheums are similar to the Kay one piece guitars from the late 1950's that were similar to the Harmony H44 Stratotones. From the looks of that body, pickup and neck I'd say this one was made in the Kay factory. Orpheum is an old guitar brand out of New York. I am curious to find out from any players what these sound and play like.

I believe this guitar was made in the late '50's - early '60's. Similar to a Harmony Stratotone. Cool copper finsih that has faded a bit. The headstock logo is faded but still very visible. Lots of play wear and plenty of nicks and scratches. Everything works, sounds cool. I believe this guitar is all original except for the new strings, a couple pickguard screws, and maybe the output cable. $500 OBO cash only, no trades. Call or text James 562 ***-****.

Ampeg Super Rocket 100 watt 2x12 Tube combo in North Hollywood CA for $250

This seller is offering a pretty good deal on a "vintage style" amp. These Ampegs are made to look just like the old Blue Tolex models from the 1960's and they have decent tone with good all around flexibility. This Super Rocket model has 100 all tube watts which is way more than most of us will ever need. It also has two channels, Reverb, Tremolo - and wheels! The knobs are easy to find and replace.

Hammmond JR20 Tone cabinet in Buffalo NY for $100

Most modern guitar players are not familiar with these older tube Organ tone units but if you are a fan of 1950's Jazz Guitar and Organists like Jimmy Smith you should know what this is all about.

This seller is offering a real steal on a killer Reverb and Leslie amp unit in one.

No pic on the listing but I posted a clip of a guy on Youtube playing a Hammond Organ through one of these JR20 units to give you an idea of the sound.

Val-Dez Acoustic in Lexington KY for $100

I am highlighting this posting because these Val-Dez models are fairly uncommon and there is not much info on the web. Val-Dez was a label of Espana Guitars (a distrib out of NYC). These were made by a company called Landola in Finland who also made the Espana Classical guitars in the late 60's and early 1970's. Don't confuse these with Levin Guitars that were made in Sweden - they are not as well-constructed as a Levin - but some are more than decent and they are likely on par with many of the Japanese and Italian acoustics of the same era.

This model appears to be a copy of a Martin D-18. It seems most of the Val Dez models you will see are either OO (ie. Concert) sized or Classical guitars.

Gibson Les Paul Jr. w Humbucker in Lexington KY for $400

I don't know exactly which Les Paul Jr. model this is but somebody is offering a good deal on a USA Gibson. Guitar Center offered a special edition LP Jr. with a Humbucker for $599 a little while ago but that guitar had a satin finish and plastic tuner buttons. It also had a coil tap for the humbucker. But i don't think it was available in a Red Sunburst like this one.

This model seems to have a gloss finish and it has chrome tuners and what appear from the photo to be speed knobs. Whatever it is it would be worth checking out.

Warning: I can' help but notice that the back of that neck seems to be unpainted which allows for one other possibility - this could be a cheap Epiphone Jr. Body with a Gibson Sonex neck bolted onto it. Caveat Emptor!

Airline 2x10 Combo amp model 62-9026A in Albany for $500

Sounds like the seller has had all the upgrade and maintenance done on this amp that you would need. The basic setup on this amp is similar to a Fender Vibrolux - 30 or 40 watts with 2x10 vintage Jensens and Reverb and Tremolo - nice club amp.

BTW - He's not joking about the GC one for $2195 - that amp is still listed on their website.

Fender Bronco Silverface tube combo amp in Atlanta for $325

These Bronco's are identical in every way to the Vibro Champs of the same era. The seller says this one is a 1970 so I take for granted he knows - though the "tail on" Fender logo could make this a 1967 or 1968 model. The Bronco holds the distinction of being the first Fender amp of the Silverface era. It was available with a Silverface panel a full year before any of the other Fender amps sported that look.

Awesome original 1956 Studio Footage of a Bigsby Double neck electric guitar

This is some mind blowing footage. The player is _______* and he is playing a rare (even at the time) Paul Bigsby built Double neck solid body electric guitar. Check out the awesome Chuck Berry - James Burton style licks and the killer tone!

One of the best parts is at the end when the recording engineer says: "That guitar is really distawted - guess we better do it again." LOL!!

This is courtesy of _____ family who posted it on youtube. Sadly ____ died a few years ago but there are some other videos of the guitar that is still in their possession - check it out.

Here is a modern close up examination of the guitar. Try not to fall out of your seat at some of the hilarious comments made by the grandsons about the guitar.

Note: * I have no idea if the player on these videos is G___ Martin or not so I am purposefully not identifying him as such. I don't see the name emblazoned on the guitar (as it was on all of G__ M___'s guitars) so there is no way to know for sure. Just doing it that way out of respect for the player and his family. - JC

1955 K27 Jumbo acoustic in Richmond VA for $220

These K27's are very nice acoustics and far superior to some of the other lesser Jumbo's and other flat top acoustics Kay made over the years.

Very similar in size and shape to a Gibson J-200 these have a two-piece solid (not laminate) Spruce top and solid maple back and sides. These are X-braced guitars so they resonate fairly well. The MOP inlays on the fretbaord and headstock show this to be a circa 1955 version. In fact if you look at the pic of Elmore James and his famous Kay acoustic you'll see it has the exact same headstock. This guitar shows some serious play wear on the top but for some of us that just adds to the mojo.

BTW - I can't tell from the photos but if those are still the original tuners they would be the same Kluson sealed tuning machines you would get on a 1950's Gibson.

Selling my 1964 Kay TrueTone Vanguard electric with original case.
Has one of the toneful DeArmond pickups in it...pickup sings beautifully.
Everything is original to my knowledge. Has a crack in the pickguard by the right pickup screw.
Small nicks here and there and there's a hairline strip of paint missing on the side.
Reason for selling? Too many guitars/need money to fund another guitar project/you know the story (of my life), etc.

Hofner 173 solid body electric in Mass for $475

This seller is offering a rare and funky Hofner solid-body electric form the 1960's. I used to have a Hofner COlorama and it had the "vinyl striping" around it like this one which means it should also have the "plastic coating" on the body. This is similar to the Airline-Supro Reso-glas type body but with more of a complete wooden core underneath.

Hofners were always unique guitars so it's rare to see one so closely imitating a Strat. That said this guitar still has unique elements like the tailpiece, pickups and control configuration. I would expect this to be a pretty darn nice guitar.

BTW: If you are a bargain hunter like me you will note several things about this sellers guitar that make it appealing. 1 - it has what looks like a perfect original case OHSC. 2 - it has the original Whammy bar - which can be a real PITA to find. 3 - All the original tuners and buttons are intact - another tough find if one or more were missing. I usually buy guitars that are missing one or more of these elements and then spend months trying to locate replacement parts. - JC

Steve Russell runs a terrific Hofner guitar site with lots of photos and upon looking at that site I would estimate this is a post 1966 but pre-1970's model 173 since it has the fancier dot marker layout on the neck and the solid chrome Hofner pickup covers but it also has the individual switches for each pickup.

here is a link to that website HOFNER GUITARS GALLERY

This is a real neat German Hofner Solidbody 173 with a Pewter Metallic body with a Gold mist on the front. Everything else is original. The neck plays smooth and kind of reminds me of a Fender Mustang which is a little fatter than a Strat. The rubber around the body is original and is a little beat up. Everything else is in great shape being a vintage guitar. The pickguard is custom made, the original is deformed and has scratch marks on it,however it will be included with the guitar. This is a cool guitar, fun to play and has many tone options. Has that classic 60's Vibe. Comes with original case in excellent cond.

Pics to follow or request.

Reply to: rz7vh-2872099284@sale.craigslist.org [Errors when replying to ads?]

This is an old amp from the 1960's. I believe it's a 1967 or 1968 model. The model number is K150-8. It was Kustom's version of the Fender Super Reverb. It is a self-contained guitar combo amp with 4 10" speakers. It has 2 channels, 1 wet, 1 dry. The wet channel (reverb) also has tremelo and vibrato (few amps have both) and a pull bright switch for the treble. There are 2 inputs per channel, one high and one low, per channel. There's a monitor output on the back. That may be Kustom's name for line out. I've not tested that jack. There's also a stereo footswitch jack on the back to control the reverb and tremelo/vibrato. There's a long power cord and convenient cord winder on the back. It's a 2 prong cord and a 3 way on-off switch. I recommend converting to a grounded outlet, but it works just fine right now. The speakers are in very good shape. The grill cloth is not torn. There are some rips in the roll and pleating fabric, but most can be mended. One handle is missing the grab handle. If I kept it, I would replace it with recessed handles, like modern amps have. Simple fix, and very effective.

If you have questions about this amp, or Kustom amps in general, give me a call. I grew up playing in a band in the 60's and we used Kustom amps (not this one, however). They were way ahead of their time and still have a huge fan base. There are some websites dedicated to Kustom where you can buy/sell/trade/ and get info on old Kustom amps.

It's a great size for gigging and with all the inputs, works well for multiple uses. It's plenty loud for most gigs. Everything works except for the reverb. I think there's an unplugged wire internally. Replacement reverb tanks are available. I just don't know how to replace one.

These are actual photos. Local sale only for cash, no exceptions. I'll remove the ad when it's sold. If you see this ad, then it's still for sale. I live near 100th and York in Thornton, where it can be seen and demo'd.
