My friend got a call from his great aunt, she said "Jimi I found something in the attic, it belonged to your late cousin.

It was this BR-9 set. He doesn't play the lap steel much, but he says the amp is hands down his favorite. (he owns five amps and two of them are 70's Fenders)
BR-9's are nice little amps. What your friend is probably responding to the most is the combination of a single-ended amp circuit with a vintage Alnico speaker. Compared to most modern amps, the sound is very immediate and present.
