Marshall JMP 100 Watt Tube head in LA Area for $600

From what I can see in the pics, this appears to be a circa 1969-1972 Marshall JMP non-Master volume Plexi head. Now I am far from an expert on these so maybe someone can tell me if this is a "Small box" version or if it has been converted to a Master Volume (what is that chicken head knob on the rear panel?) but I do know that these go for a lot more than $600.

  1. Looks like a clone in an authentic headbox. The chrome chassis and stickers give it away as something not quite kosher. Then again depending on how it sounds and what tubes are in it, it may be worth $600.

  2. You may be right. I can't tell the color of the faceplate from the flash blowout but it doesn't look gold tome either. I've also never seen a Marshall without a long central turret board - maybe another clue. Wonder if those are Mallory Caps and Mullard tubes?

  3. Yeah, that's not a 'real' Marshall. Along with the missing turret board, the wiring isn't the correct color. Marshall has always used the same color wire when they wired them up.
