Roy Buchanon may just be the most respected blues guitar player that nobody ever listens to. His life and death are so swamped in controversy that it is easy to forget just how incredible a player he really was.
This half hour segment showcases several outstanding songs during a performance on Austin City Limits and it is one of the few high quality video recordings of Roy in what many consider to be his prime. If you don't know Roy Buchanon you are in for a treat. His style incorporates everything from 1950's style claw-picking Americana ala Chet Atkins and Les Paul to the heavy Brit-Blues rockers like Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck to the folksy fret-wizardry of players like Richard Thompson. He was a superb technical guitarist with a very soulful style. IMO he was one of the greatest note benders ever to pick up a guitar - second only to Hendrix in that particular skill.
