This is the right price for a cool, rare and little known tube amp. The 1481 is the baby brother of the legendary 1482 - about half the wattage (7 or 8 watts) and cooler than any Fender Champ you'd have to pay twice the price for. Jensen C8R is a nice speaker too.

Harmony Master Archtop in Manassas VA for $129
I see these 1950's Harmony Archtops at ridiculously high prices all the time - I don't know who buys them for that much whenyou can find them for prices like this one - $129. And this one is in good shape with the original pickguard!
Of course the action is high... it is always high on these guitars. That's how they came form the factory. Toughen up! LOL!

All original vintage 1950s Harmony jazz box. These guitars did not have adjustable truss rods - - - non adjustable steel rod instead. The action is medium to high but it still plays pretty easily. It will begin to fret out above the 9-12th frets. You could pretty easily do a neck press and reset but I've decided it's not worth the investment for modest improvement in playability in upper registers. Great guitar for blues bits on home recording projects, etc. Vintage Guitar Magazine Price Guide lists these as $500+ guitars. Priced to move. No case. Will ship anywhere.

Vintage Teisco Tulip in good condition. All original. Neck is straight , low action,
plays good all the way up the neck, no fret buzz. Low profile frets. This guitar has
the strongest, best sounding pickups I've ever heard on a Teisco. This model is a
little different than most Teisco Tulips that you see. It has a solid mahogany body
and neck, two color sunburst instead of three, and a stamped aluminum pickguard
instead of plastic. Missing the vibrato arm and headstock logo. Guitar has typical
wear and tear that you'd find on a 40+ year old guitar. Comes with soft shell case.

Yamaha Red label FG-75 in San Pedro CA for $135
With the current popularity of the OO and parlor-sized guitars you might want to consider these Yamaha's from the late 60's and early 70's. I thnk the FG-75 appeared around 1969 and these Nippon Gakki Red Label versions are the most desireable. That said, be aware that these are laminated top guitars so the age of the wood is not going to do much to improve the tone - luckily these usually sounded pretty good from the get go. Expect a nice playable guitar with a slightly thick neck and you won't be disappointed.
There was a time when these little Japanese acoustics could be found for $50 or less but that time is pretty much gone.

Yamaha FG-75, red label "Nippon Gakki." These guitars were made in Japan in the 60s and this one has an outstanding sound. It is not as large as a dreadnought size and has a very comfortable feel. Neck and body are in great shape for an almost fifty year-old guitar. Sorry no case.

Carvin Vintage 33 Tube combo amp in Culver City CA for $250
Can't beat the price on this Carvin Vintage 33. This model falls right in between the Vintage 18 and Bel-Air. 30 watts is about perfect for both the home and small club gigs. Think Vox AC30 in terms of volume and clean channel tones but expect it will need a little tweaking (swapping tubes) to improve the overdrive channel. This is a later version since it has both the Presence knob (on back) and effects loop.
Well built and very useable tube amp for minimal cash outlay. It's even got the requisite cigarette burn on the Tweed already!

Carvin Vintage 33 two-channel Tube Amp with effects send/receive, foot pedal and chamber reverb. In the same family (and I think exactly the same except for the wattage) as the Nomad and Bel Air. Everything works. Very loud, but the soak feature allows you to drive up the power in the tubes for home or studio use.

Hamer Studio USA 59 Burst at GC for $799
This is the sort of guitar you can get a good deal on at GC because they are not well known and not in high demand even though they are very high quality handmade guitars (built by a few meticulous luthiers in a tiny shop in Connecticut).
Note: They also screwed up on the CG website and posted a pic of a Fender Squire instead of the beautiful Flame Top Hamer USA guitar so it won't get much attention. - JC
The pic I am posting here is NOT from GC but a file photo of a Hamer Studio 59 Burst.

Hound Dog Taylor Style Kawai S170 in Boston for $275
Any excuse to post this rare footage of Hound Dog Taylor live - enjoy!
I reader named Craig alerted me to this listing in Boston - most of the guitars listed here are not worth pursuing but the Kawai at the end is very similar to the SSL4 and other 1960's Kawai axes favored by the great slide guitarist Hound Dog Taylor. Check it out.

I have six guitars for sale, ranging from $100 to $275.
The first is a black Fender Starcaster with cool block fret markers for $100
Next is an Olympic White Affinity Squier (Fender) Strat (it looks more yellow in the photo) for $120
Then I have four cool Japanese guitars from the '70s, possibly even the '60s.
I have a Teisco Del Ray guitar (with logo... which is rare these days) which sounds awesome. $175
There's also a Japanese, possibly one of the many brand names like Kent, Teisco, Kimberly, guitar that is reminiscient of the Gibson SG. It also sounds great, with two P90-like pickups and "twang bar". $150
A strange guitar is this one that looks like a Gibson Melody Maker (very flat). I think it may actually be an early Hondo, before they became "Hondo II". It sounds really nice, especially the neck pickup. The neck is really nice. $150.
And lastly I have a Kawai S-170, also known as the "Hound Dog Taylor" guitar, since Hound Dog Taylor used to play these guitars. This one has three pickups (HDT used four) and strange wiring, but it sounds really nice in my Vox AC15. $275.
All prices are "or best offer". I will give discounts if you buy more than one guitar.
When contacting me, please include your name and number, otherwise I may not respond to your inquiry since most scammers only say things like "is it still available?" hoping you'll respond and then they have your email info, etc. Here are pictures:

1988 Paul Reed Smith CE-24 at GC in Natick MA for $999
This is a "pre-factory" (or Annapolis factory) Paul Reed Smith guitar from the first year the CE-24 was manufactured. This one will have an Alder body versus the Mahogany bodies used in 1994 and later. Note that it has the 3-way switch instead of the later rotary selector knob. This could possibly have one of the rare "Chainsaw" treble pickups - depending on how early in the production this one falls.
There is a lot of talk about the Brazilian Rosewood on the earlier PRS guitars but that would be hard to know for sure.
Overall there are many collectible and desireable qualities to this CE-24, and if you don't mind a bolt on 24 fret PRS (Alex Lifeson doesn't mind) then this should be one heck of a guitar.

Boyden 50 watt Hand Built Boutique amp at GC in Lakeland FL for $699
Dick Boyden knows how to build a very nice amplifier using top quality components - consider this to be on par with a Dr. Z - or maybe even better. These amps are made in Pensacola FL so this one stayed close to home but you don't see these on the resale market very often - I don't even know what they sell for new but I am sure it is at least $1500 - maybe alot more. You can bet there are some very good speakers in there too.
So this Guitar Center in FL is selling a high end boutique pro tube amp for the same price as a new Fender Hot Rod Deville.

Kapa Continental (USA) in Raleigh NC for $380
Strange, unique, quirky guitars like the Kapa Continental are right at home in local Indie alternative art-rock bands. Super thin necks on these are great for small hands and female guitarist singer songwriters. Just don't expect to be using the Tremolo much live. Good pickups in these guitars.
All Kapa's have wrecked finishes like this one - the result of their simple one coat cheapo finish. Adds to the charm.

Mid 1960's USA made KAPA Continental, relic'ed the old-fashion way... Checking, missing finish and some rosewood neck divots only adds to its vintage character.
Manufactured in Edsmonston Maryland from 1963 to 1970 by Koop Veneman and originally sold through his Hyattsville / Silver Spring MD "Veneman Music Emporium" store, later relocating to Wheaton MD. Koop assembled his guitars and marketed them as a cost effective alternative to the higher priced Fenders and Gibsons he sold in his store.
A pair of German (Hofner type 511 Nova Sonic "Staple" by Franz Pix) pickups and bridge stamped "Germany" with three USA CTS 250K potentiometers. 1966 Date codes on pots. (Hey, the pots alone are worth big bucks!) Pickups measure around 8.0K DC Resistance each.
Set up with D'Addario 9's strings and very low action, a very easy to play guitar. Frets are small and are in good shape, and the neck is ultra thin. All electronics, tuners and tremolo are in excellent working condition. The only parts that are not original are one tuner screw and the strings.

Sano 500R-12 tube combo amp in Luoisville KY for $300
This is a terrific deal on a little known but highly desireable 50 watt 2x12 tube amplifier with Reverb and Tremolo - the Sano 500R-12. These were high level professional amps of their day similar to the Magnatone line and they are finely crafted and built to last. Note, forget about shipping - this will be a heavy amp - luckily it is on wheels.
This should make a great JAZZ or Country guitar amplifier. Stays clean all the way up and down the volume scale but has beautiful bell like tonal characteristics. What a nice amp.

For sale is a 1960's Sano all tube 2x12 combo guitar amplifier. The Model number is 500R-12 and the Serial number is 500824. Sano amps were made right down the street from the Ampeg factory and have a great character all their own. I had a grounded plug put in and a few caps have been replaced/updated. The spring reverb and tremolo are in perfect working order and sound fantastic. This amp has been great for recording (stays clean at higher volumes and doesn't break up as much as other smaller amps... very surfy) and doesn't have any problems with it other than the usual 60's cosmetic wear...all the electronics are sound. And $300 for an all-tube, vintage 60's amp is a great deal. I just need to pay some bills and am willing to take a bit of a hit on it. Please contact me if you are interested and/or would like more information. I will be happy to oblige.
Thanks,
k.

Silvertone 1484 Head and 2x12 Cabinet In Memphis for $500
The seller says this amp had a recent cap job but for some reason the Reverb and Trem tubes were not replaced... huh?
I am listing this because it is a decent price with the included cabinet - you often see just the 1484 amp heads alone for $400+. Also Memphis is a large town so hopefully someone can go check this amp out in person. Good luck!
Note: For the record, the "Twin Twelve" is the 2x12 Combo version of this amp - not this piggyback amp and cabinet.

The Sears Silvertone series of guitar amps were made from the '30s to the '70s. Its Silvertone 1484 came along in the highly charged mid-'60s, and many have stood the test of time until 2010, thanks to the long-standing adoption of the brand by the musical elite. Often referred to as the Silvertone Twin Twelve, the 1484's twin 12-inch speakers and straightforward controls still satisfy connoisseurs of every genre.
Basics
Often compared to similar Dano models of the day--many of each are still in circulation across the globe--the 50-watt Sears Silvertone 1484 has reverb and tremolo in two channels. A jumper cable allows you to dirty up and thicken your tones by bridging channels. Controls also allow you to adjust the depth of tones on each individual channel.
Diversity
The 1484 allows users to open up both 12-inch (usually Jensen) speakers or roll down to a single 12-inch for more intimate gigs. At top volume and condition, it doesn't lose tone thanks to a pedal-free overdrive. The construction is pressed board, which makes for less durable but lighter loads.
Reverb and Tremelo
The tremolo on the 1484 amp is full and rich in both loud and soft tones, but the reverb assembly is far less complex than other more respected models of the day, such as Fender. This owes to the amps' affordability--both then and now.
