Vox Custom 25 Electric in Antelope Valley CA for $250

This seller is offering a Vox Custom 25 neck thru solid body electric guitar for $250.  The Custom 25 along with it's kid brother the Custom 24 was one of the last guitars to carry the official Vox label and was manufactured in Japan at the Matsumoku factory between 1982-85.  These are similar to the Vantage guitars but with better overall fit and finish and hardware including a pair of factory installed DiMarzio X2N ceramic humbucker pickups and both coil tap and phase inverter switches.  They are fairly rare and most owners speak well of them with the only drawback being the weight which is about the same as a Les Paul.

Rare Gene Leis tube amp head and cab in Torrance CA for $275

I've seen a few Gene Leis guitar amps over the years but most of those were tiny little 50C5 type amps similar to an Alamo or Lafayette student amp. This one looks like another Gene Leis model I saw online called a 910T that has a pair of 12AX7's and a 6V6GT and a 6X5GT Rectifier tube.  That would still only make it about 6 or 8 watts but it might be a fun amp - though not enough for anything but the smallest gigs.

Rare Collector's Item - Vintage 1964 Gene Leis Guitar Amplifier

Gene Leis was an American jazz guitarist, teacher, bandleader, composer, producer and entrepreneur. Known primarily for his influential publications and recorded guitar courses in the 1960s, Gene was also a popular performer and a mentor to a large number of musicians through his teaching studios in Manhattan Beach, California. He designed a line of guitar amplifiers and sold over 8,000 amplifiers before leaving the crowded amp market. I actually knew Gene back in the 70's and he sold me my first "real" guitar in his Manhattan Beach store, so this was a "nostalgic" purchase for me when I found it. Alas, financial considerations force me to sell it..my loss is your gain.

This collectable amp was not working when I purchased it, so I had it re-tubed and replaced the cord with a modern 3-prong grounded cord (as shown) and it works great now. The amp tech that worked on it dated it to 1964 based on the numbers on the original 10" speaker in the cabinet. I do not know the power rating of the amp, but it is relatively low powered, as many vintage amps of the day were. It sounds very warm and natural, and breaks up into a nice growl when turned up. It has volume, tone and tremolo controls that all work.

Fender Excelsior Tube Amp - What a Deal! Anybody playing one of these?

The last thing I need is another tube amp around the house but I gotta say these Fender pawn Shop Series Excelsiors look like a helluva deal.  These are going for $299 shipped all over the web!

Gotta love a tube amp with a 15 inch speaker and just 2 knobs.  Oh and a Brilliant Switch too!

Anybody got one of these at home that can give us some feedback (other than it looks cool, hehe)? 

Harmony Sovereign Acoustic - real deal in Richmond VA for $200

This seller is offering one of the more desirable type of Harmony Sovereigns with the big "sloped shoulder" dreadnaught body and the original pinless bridge.   Expect big warm tones ala "Stairway to Heaven."

Always nice to see one of these being offered at a reasonable (i.e. non-collector range) price.  This was just listed this morning so if you move fast...

This guitar is in excellent condition and still sounds sharp, the neck is in perfect contion and isnt warped or over torqued. tuning arms are not rursted or grinding. its a great piece for a historic collection. Martin D16-GT Acoustic in Richmond VA for $650

Seller is offering a Martin D16-GT at a reasonable price.  May want to check this out if you are in the area.

This model has a solid Sitka Spruce top and Mahogany back and sides. It has the Hybrid X bracing. The GT stands for "Gloss Top"   This version does not have any built in electronics.

The $650 is a good price, even with a few little dings.

Tempo archtop electric in Mobile AL for $250

This seller is offering a Tempo brand archtop with a pickup for $250.  This one is a bit of a puzzle to me.  Tempo was a sort of intro level brand of mostly Japanese made guitars and small practice amps in the 1960's similar to Lafayette and Teisco, but I guess, like Lafayette and St. George, they may have had some USA sourced instruments as well. This archtop certainly appears to be a USA built product though the origin of the pickup is up for discussion.    What really got my attention are those Kluson single line deluxe tuners - those are the real deal and many collectors will jump at the sight of those.

A quick Google search found this statement listed under "eHow" about Tempo Archtop Guitars.

50 year old Harmony H-162 Acoustic in San Diego Area for $75

This antique dealer is selling an early 1960's Harmony H-162 for $75.  Of all the Harmony acoustics I've owned over the years these are my favorites.  They are the perfect size (Grand Concert) and I just love the way they look, feel and sound.  Of course, that is just me.  If you are in the San Diego area this is worth taking a look.   The seller is some kind of antique dealer and they have a tel number listed on the original posting.
