1966 Framus 5/155 Strato Electric in Albuquerque NM for $500
Framus was a respectiable guitar maker in the 1950's and 1960's and these guitars were built by German Craftsmen who took pride in their work. I'm not going to act like these are world class guitars but they are right up there with Harmony and other budget USA made guitars at the time. A step higher than the Italian electrics of the same period and definitely more solid build overall than most of the Japanese guitars of the same time.
Framus electrics have thin necks that make them great for players with smaller hands (or anyone who likes a thin neck). They are known for their specific laminated multilayered necks that do not warp or bow over time. The pickups are low to medium output so they usually give a nice clean sound and you can drive them with a pedal jif you want to push an amp.
I chose to highlight this CL post because this particular guitar is being sold by a luthier in Albuquerque who took the time to get this guitar in good current playing condition. Don't worry about things like replaced switches aand Tone knobs because that is really an upgrade on a guitar like this and this will never be a "collectors item" where buyers will grimace at a mismatched tone pot, LOL! $500 is not cheap but it's not a bad price either. This would be a fairly unique guitar for an Indie player or someone who just doesn't want to have the same guitar as everyone else.
This post went up on CL in mid January 2025. If you are in the are this is a neat guitar to check out. Here is the listing.

Vintage Framus Guitar - $500 (Albuquerque)
Up for sale is a 1966 Framus, made in Germany. This is a cool offbeat guitar to add to your collection! It plays well, sounds like a fat tele, and has loads of vibe. Comes with the original case and whammy bar.
It is all original, except for a few updates to the electronics. I recently did a head to toe restoration on it (I'm a local pedal builder and have worked on guitars for 10+ years). This thing is built WAY better than the Teiscos of this era that I've worked on. Nuts and bolts restoration included:
- polishing guitar and neck
- polishing all metal parts
- lubricated tuners
- replaced toggle switches (old ones were bad)- cleaned pots
- replaced capacitors
- updated tone controls (they didn't really do much and worked backwards before)
- new strings and complete set up
Come by and check it out!
