Kay Vanguard in Oklahoma City for $160

I contacted the seller of this guitar, his name is Austin, and he said that as of today (Sept 28, 2012) the guitar is still available.  This is a pretty sweet deal for a Vanguard - especially one with the nifty ornate Kay headstock logo.  Those bridges are kind of tricky if it needs a replacement - just keep that in mind.

These are great slide guitars - nice chunky necks and they are full length scale as well - they just look short because the tailpiece is mounted way back on the body.  Once you get used to it this can be pretty cool.  The Kay "cake pan" pickup on these is the real prize here. You don't find them on fully solid guitars like this very often and this body is a nice thick piece of solid wood.  You could drive a sinker ball over the center field wall with this baby then flip it back around and play "Dying Gambler" by Blind Willie McTell.

This here is a wonderful guitar. It sounds awesome and plays really well. It's an awesome garage rock and blues guitar. I've used it at a few shows myself back when I was in a band. It handled itself well. The tone knob, however, doesn't work, but it still sounds fat and has rockibility. The bridge is also a little broken, It's a $5 fix anywhere you go though. Again, the price is negotiable, so work with me. The money isn't flowing these days so I'm trying to rid myself of some things. This is a great guitar and piece of history.

Please reply via email.

Have a great day!

Best Sounding Vintage Studio Fuzz Box ever - check it out!

This video was posted by Mike at Drowning in Guitars and to my ear this is one of the best sounding (if not THE best) vintage single knob fuzzbox I've ever heard.  it's called an Os Mutantes Regulas 8 based on some South American guitarist's vintage spec custom built box.

Of curse boxes like this - as well as the Superfuzz and the Shin Ei companion, two of my other faves - can be hard to use live since the tone gets easily lost in the mix but man would this sound great on a studio track.

Mike does a good job of displaying the range of this box and he peels off some darn good licks in the process.

1967 Silvertone 1443 Danelectro) Bass guitar in Baton Rouge LA for $625

The seller gives some useful info about this bass but does he really have to convince us that it is cool?  C'mon?!  This model is the bass version of the vaunted Danelectro Hornet and it is awesome!  Just look at it - two lipstick pickups, cool heavy duty hardware and brushed metal knobs, aluminum nut, rosewood board.

You just don't see a lot of these Silvertone basses floating around in player ready condition.  This one is a real find.  Of course, I have no idea how well those lipstick pickups reproduce bass tones - but it's worth a look.

This is a Silvertone 1443, Solid body, electric bass guitar made by Danelectro circa 1967. It has a red-to-black burst finish with two lipstick pickups. It was made in Neptune New Jersey. It's far more rare than the single pickup model, which i also have in my collection.
The bass is in great condition for being forty five years old! The neck is straight with fast action. The neck is a bolt-on with two steel adjustable truss rods with rosewood fingerboard and 22- fret scale. Electronics all work correectly. The tuners are 100% original...nickel. There is a seam where the headstock joins the neck and paint is cracking, This was apparent when i bought the guitar back in 1991(21 years ago) and is rock solid, strictly a cosmetic issue. What a wonderful addition to your collection of great American bass guitars, build by hand, made by a great entrepreneur of the early electric bass.
This bass guitar was only offered from 1966 to 1968 by Sears and Robuck.
Asking $625

Silvertone 1327 in Long Beach CA for $400

The seller says this is a 1958 model so that would make this a 1327 not a 1421 - and since it has the original Hershey bar pickups and brown melanite knobs and switch tip I would suspect he is telling the truth.

Very cool guitar that looks to be all original with some nice players wear meaning it has been played a lot (which is a good sign).

Framus 1971 Electric Bass in Bethlehem PA for $375

This seller isn't giving much information about this Framus bass but I found one just like it at a guitar shop in England and they stated it was a 1971 Short Scale model - see this link:  1971 FRAMUS BASS  Guitar players like me enjoy playing short scale basses in the recording studio and this Framus should have a nice woody vintage thump ala Eric Burden and the Animals or the Rolling Stones. And dig that cool "compensator" style tailpiece.

Guild Bluesbird Electric in Burlington VT for $500

It seems just about every Les Paul looking solid body guitar Guild ever sold was christened as a "Bluesbird."  My personal favorite version is the early 1970's partially hollow version with the more rounded cutaway horn.  This one is quite different than that model.   Very much a product of the mid-1980's with it's EMG pickups and divebomb locking vibrato tailpiece.

The seller of this guitar basically does my job for me by telling you everything you need to know.  But he doesn't mention that this model was originally sold in 1985 as the Guild "Setzer" Bluesbird.  He is not lying about the limited run on these. Most people think of this as a "prototype" guitar because it had such a short production run.  Of course the aesthetics are a matter of taste.  Strangely enough, this model Bluesbird is probably more suitable as a Prog Rock electric guitar than the retro blues machine its namesake implies.

Here's something you don't see every day! A 1986 Guild Bluesbird made in USA, with EMG pickups, Kahler Locking Tremolo (bar not included), and a beautiful amber finish on what looks to be a gorgeous flame maple body. No case. As far as I can tell, only 216 of these were made, between 85-87. This one is #157. Great sustain. All electronics seem to be in working order. A previous owner seems to have installed a boost knob, which works just fine. Plenty of light scratches throughout, but just one major ding (a chip in the finish on the back near the lower bout strap button, see picture), and the finish has chipped a little along the side of the fretboard. I have it strung with 11's because that's what I like, but it could easily accomodate 10's, 9's, or even 8's! This guitar came to me recently and I sadly can't justify having two electrics, so its got to go. More pictures are available upon request. Vintage Guitar Guide says these are worth approximately between $750-825, so get yourself a good deal here!

$500, cash only!

Sano hollow body electric guitar on Rhode Island for $350

Well lookie here.  I didn't even know that Sano made (or distributed) and electric guitars but lo and behold here is one for sale in Rhode Island.

This appears to be a Crucianelli or Eko made guitar with a Sano label.  Note the Hofner-esque archtop bridge and the Guild-DeArmond looking tailpiece.   his is clearly not a high end guitar, no fancy binding or inlays etc.  But it is certainly a rare and unusual one.

The wording in the listing makes the seller sound like he is from Italy as well LOL.  you never know, he could be the original owner.

1960's Framus Model 192L Jumbo acoustic in Olympia WA area for $250

This seller is offering a stunning Framus 192L for $250 obo in the Olympia WA area.  This had to have been Framus' top of the line acoustic in the mid 1960's - look at that matched bookend flaming on the body - it looks like Bubinga or some other exotic hardwood.  Also, I've never seen an inlaid neck that ornate on any Framus - it's more like a Hopf or a Hofner jazz guitar neck.  And that soundhole Rosette is all inlaid Mother of Pearl.   A very nice looking vintage acoustic guitar from the heart of Bavaria.

1930's V-neck Birch Bodied parlor guitar in Olympia WA area for $95

This seller is offering a cool Birch bodied acoustic that appears to be in good shape and that he says has decent low action.  It certainly appears to be in good undamaged condition in the photos.  By the extreme V-shape of that neck I would place this as a pre-War guitar, possible from the 1930's.  The headstock shape resembles some Regal, Deering and Slingerland models I've seen in the past and it has the 10th fret marker common to pre-war Stella guitars.

Any day you can grab one of these 75 year old solid wood Blues Boxes for $100 or less is a good day.

Epiphone SC-450 Scroll Electric in Las Vegas for $420

This seller is offering an Epiphone SC-450 Scroll guitar for $420.  These were made in Japan in the late 1970's and they are pretty darn nice and definitely hard to find for sale unless you are very patient.

These Epi Scroll guitars have always been of interest to me ever since I saw a video of Rory Gallagher playing one live.*  I could tell you a little bit about them but there is a video on Youtube of a gal who talks about every aspect of these guitars for 10 minutes so she can do a much better job than me.  Here is a link to that video:  EPIPHONE SCROLL VIDEO

An interesting fact is that you could buy these with factory installed Gibson pickups for an additional cost. Those models are listed as the SC-450G and they have what appear to be Gibson USA T-tops pickups.

*Note:  After going back and looking at the video of Bullfrog Blues live on Youtube (RORY GALLAGHER BULLFROG BLUES) it turns out that may not be an Epiphone Scroll afterall.  I actually cant Identify the guitar Rory is playing in that video - but it is not his usual Strat. if anyone can identify it I will appreciate it very much.  - JC

1965 Fender Villager 12 String in Scottsdale AZ for $250

This seller is offering an original Fender Villager 12 string for $250.  You can tell this is one of the early ones by the Kluson deluxe tuners (BTW, you could take off those 1965 tuners and sell them individually for $20 a piece and make back the entire cost of this guitar - I'm just saying... hehe.

The 5 digit Serial number on this one should make it part of the earliest first year run of this model.

Now, Fender has never been renowned for any of their acoustic guitars but the Villager at least is funky and cool and unique with it's bizarro headstock shape and its bolt on thin electric style neck.   The Villager is the 12 string version of the Fender Malibu, which, though not known as a collectible or great sounding acoustic, was quite popular back in the 1960's and were occasionally played by everyone from Jerry Garcia to Eric Clapton.  These acoustics were popular with electric players who liked the thin fast necks.   I am not sure where these were actually built, somewhere in the USA most likely at the Fullerton factory?  Fender has reissued these as a cutaway and you can buy a new imported version for about $500 so this one is a deal.

Note the solid copper pipe that runs through the interior of the guitar body.  This is original to the design.  I guess this was Fender's way of providing some subtle structural support. LOL.

I found a video on Youtube of a guy playoing one of these original Villagers - his is from the 1970's.  It sounds pretty nice to me - not a lot of bottom but a real nice jangle.  reminds me of that Aussie band "The Church." - here is a link:  VINTAGE FENDER VILLAGER 12 STRING ACOUSTIC

I have a vintage Fender Villager 12 string acoustic guitar in good condition. It's probably 1965-66 (according to Fender). Fender did not keep real good records around that time, when CBS bought them.
It has some wear and a slight crack in the face, cosmetic only. It comes with a TKL hard case (in picture).
