1999 Fender American Strat for $450 in Pico Rivera CA

This seller is offering a USA made American Standard Stratocaster with an amp and accessories for $450.  From the pic it looks like a nice guitar in decent shape.  The color looks like either Olympic White or a faded Graffitti Yellow.  Hard to tell from the pic.  Pico Rivera is East of Los Angeles.

1970's Fender Quad Reverb at GC in Fayetteville GA for $399

I haven't seen this amp in person but it just showed up on the Guitar Centter used gear listings out of Fayetteville, GA.   It is a nice looking Silverface Quad Reverb and unless I am mistaken the missing Master Volume pot and knob would indicate that someone has already taken the time and expense to have this amp "Blackfaced" which should be a very nice upgrade indeed.  Of course with 100 watts going through four 12-inch Oxfords with no master Volume this is going to be one helluva loud amp.

The Quad is basically a Fender Twin Reverb with four speakers instead of two - it has a slightly different output transformer as a result and these are known for tremendous volume.  Waylon Jennings used to use one on the road back in his heyday.

If you are in the area this is definitely worth taking a look.

1960's Silvertone H617 Harmony made Acoustic in San Fernando Valley for $135

I have seen this model referred to as the Silvetone H617 in the past but it is just one of those mid level Silvertone's from the 1960's.  Not as fancy as a Harmony Sovereign and not as resonant as a Harmony H62 or H65 but good basic concert sized guitars if you have strong fingers and can handle the high action.

This one looks to be in good shape.  The finish on these seems to hold up surprisingly well.

SILVERTONE ACOUSTIC GUITAR 1960's / KAY / HARMONY - $135 (SFValley)

A Vintage 1960's Silvertone Acoustic Guitar. It sounds really nice, plays well. Beautiful looking wood and color. Has the normal dings and nicks in it from age, but in generally very nice cosmetic shape. Very shallow crack in the paint on the backside of the guitar, other than that, beautiful specimen from this vintage age ! call or email 818 *** **** thanks !

2001 American Standard Tele in West LA for $650

Here is another USA Telecaster that may actually be from the same seller.  This one is white with a Rosewood board - luckily I already have one of these hehe.

No trades please.

2006 Fender USA Telecaster in West LA for $650

This Telecaster looks like it is basically brand new.  I though it might be a Highway 1 but that Bridge is an American Standard Bridge with the 6 Saddles and they never made a Highway 1 in Natural Ash like this so it must be an American Standard.  Nice guitar for a variety of styles.  I am tempted to consider it as the basis for building a Keef Macawber relic - but that is just me having a momentary (ongoing) lapse of reason.

Harmony Bobcat, Rebel and Kay Speed Demon in Longmont CO for $200 - $400 each

This seller is offering a couple of nice looking vintage 1960's USA made electric guitars all for $400 or less each.  The Bobcat in particular is a good deal but the other two are good prices for those models as well.

the Kay Speed Demon is labeled as a Truetone but those are Kay made guitars.  And that's a good price.

I would grab that Bobcat myself if I had the room (but I don't, just ask my very patient wife).

Kent 1960's Electric 12 string in mar Vista for $250

I've never actually seen one of these before - a Kent 12 string with a Gibson style adjustable bridge and stop tailpiece.  Very unusual with the Toaster style pickups.  Seller says it plays and sounds good and stays in tune with good intonation which, if true, would make it a first for Japanese electric 12 strings from this era.  There is a reason why everyone played Ric's back then - they were the only game in town.

I'd be curious to hear about this guitar if anyone checks it out.  Check out the hole in the pickguard where it looks like they "forgot" to include a pickup selector switch.  LOL.

Sounds and plays great! Rickenbacker meets Strat. Kent (Japanese) bass body, Japanese neck, toaster pickups (unknown). All electronics work peachy, intonation good, stays in tune fine. Low action, easy to play, straight neck. Put-together lovingly and played. Really a fine instrument and great price. Single coil sound all the way. Gets jangly. Each pickup has volume control so you can mix and blend as you wish. Plus tone control. Many dings and scratches. Mojo city. Super fun guitar.

Fender 1985 Rivera-era Concert Amp in Stucio City for $300

Here is a seller offering a nice Fender Concert Head (also known as the Concert II).  This is one of the Paul Rivera line of Fender amps that included the Super Champ.  These are nice amps with a complex multi gain stage and several push-pull knobs to add brightness and other goodies.  I used to own a Concert 1x12 and it was a great amp - too much of an amp for me really - it is a 60 watt output but mine got really loud.  I never played it above about 3 or 4 (and I like to play loud - ask my neighbors).

The only thing this one may be missing is the footswitch, which is a shame because they are hard to come by and you can't use a normal two button TRS switch, you would have to make or find one.

This seller is asking a very reasonable price.  One of these just sold today on eBay for $406 + $75 shipping.  When I got rid of mine I traded it straight up for a Gibson Blues Hawk  which is worth about $900 (but mine was also modified and signed by Lee Jackson so it was a very special amp).

For Sale - 1985 (Riviera-era) Fender Concert (II) Amplifier. This is a real classic, with a fantastic sound, I have used the amazing tube sound of this amp to warm up a digital (Line6 POD, etc) guitar chain during recording. It is in very good condition considering its age, mostly due to its studio use.

I am an engineer, not a guitarist, and while I have loved having this guy around I rarely do tracking anymore and I feel this classic piece of gear would be better suited for someone who can really take advantage of it. I've included a few pics, but you'll need to google it for in-depth specs.

Thanks!

1976 Sunburst Strat in Pasadena for $1K

This seller is offering a nice looking vintage sunburst Stratocaster from 1976.  The 70's Strats have their own sound and feel and this one looks pretty unmolested which is nice.  Remember even Hendrix played a CBS era Strat with a big headstock (though he died before they switched to the 3 bolt neck and bullet truss rod).

Gibson L6-S in Long Beach CA - sold today for $250!!

I was amazed when i saw this listing this morning offering a 1975 Gibson L6-S for $90.  I thought it must be a typo.  But I contacted the seller and it turns out he did indeed sell it after just a few hours and what he called a "bidding war" for the grand and glorious sum of - $250!!  Amazing.

This model he sold is exactly what he said -  a "Midnight Special" - called that because it was released by Gibson immediately after Paul Stanley of Kiss played his Gibson L6 Custom on televisions "Midnight Special."   This model has a bolt-on neck vs. the glued in neck of Paul's L6-Custom and it has a natural headstock instead of a black one.  Other than that everything else is the same.  Amazingly enough, collector's clamor for the L6-S even more than the orig more expensive L6 Custom because of the fact it was a very limited run at the time.  Opinions vary but Gibson likely only made either 500 or 1000 of these guitars in total.

Oh and the seller even included the original Gibson Hard shell case.

Nice score for whoever beat the rest of us to it.  Congrats!

Magnatone Varsity in Portland for $200

This seller is offering a nice little Magnatone Varisty tube amp in the MOTS acetate finish.  THese are neat little Champ Killers - and of course they are Magnatones.

BTW there are also some nice Maggie's on eBay right now including a 1950's Custom 260 and a Custom 280 - both with BIN's under $1000!!  That is amazing considering how desirable those amps are. - JC

Acoustic Guitarist shows what can be done with a looper pedal

I never thought much of these looper pedals until I heard what some acoustic blues type players were doing with them.  It doesn't substitute for a real band but it shows what a little funk and soul can do to provide life to an otherwise dry and lifeless technology.  Of course I went out and bought one of these pedals and it will probably just sit because I don't have enough time to sit and figure out exactly how to work it right - LOL!

This singer guitarist is named Matt Calder and he fronts his own band called THE POUR out of SLC Utah.

Definitely a good player, composer and performer.  I like this song a lot.  The rhythm reminds me of King Sunny Ade'.  - JC

Teisco Del Rey ET-310 on eBay for $225 BIN + Shipping

This eBay seller is offering one of the more playable examples of an early 1960's Teisco -the ET-310 for a reasonable price of $225 BIN with moderate shipping cost as well.

This particular model has the Teisco pickups that are growly and hot and sound good for dirty blues.  Think Dan Auerbach.  This early style Teisco neck circa 1964-65 with the side markers is also one of my favorites - nice and thick and meaty but very stable - unlike some of their later thin laminate layered necks.
