This model he sold is exactly what he said - a "Midnight Special" - called that because it was released by Gibson immediately after Paul Stanley of Kiss played his Gibson L6 Custom on televisions "Midnight Special." This model has a bolt-on neck vs. the glued in neck of Paul's L6-Custom and it has a natural headstock instead of a black one. Other than that everything else is the same. Amazingly enough, collector's clamor for the L6-S even more than the orig more expensive L6 Custom because of the fact it was a very limited run at the time. Opinions vary but Gibson likely only made either 500 or 1000 of these guitars in total.
Oh and the seller even included the original Gibson Hard shell case.
Nice score for whoever beat the rest of us to it. Congrats!

oh man... :(
ReplyDeleteThis is what is so sickening about CL sellers. You post it for $90, sell it for $90, otherwise state your running an auction or put it on the Bay. I wouldn't have bought it on principle had he started that $hit.
ReplyDeleteNo honor among people anymore.
I guess that is one way to look at it. But CL is not a controlled environment like eBay. It is an open market and neither buyers or sellers pay for the service so it is pretty much a free-for-all. I don't think any of the buyers in this case were upset to have to pay $250 for a guitar that they can turn around and sell for $600+ any day of the week. - JC
