The Sky is Crying for Sure - Derek Trucks squeezes out every teardrop on killer slide guitar solo!

I haven't followed the Allman Brothers much in recent years but apparently I've been missing quite a bit because Derek Trucks is a serious revelation on a full throttle electric slide solo he did back in 2011.  It's amazing to see how the drummers lil' nephew grew up to be a monster player right up there on par with the late great Duane Allman.   I guess ten thousand hours of practice while growing up around some of the best guitarists in Southern rock will do that to ya.    You can listen to the whole tune and hear Warren Haynes do a decent solo as well or just CUT TO THE SLIDE SOLO starting at 6:30 in this Youtube video.

Teisco Melody vintage Tube Combo in Los Angeles area for $50 may need work

This seller is offering one of the nifty little Teisco tube amps from the 1960's.  He says it is missing a tube so we don't know if it works but these are very simple circuits - you could probably replace all the electronic parts for less than $20. And it may work just fine.  The 50C5 output tube on this is the same as a Harmony H303A or any of a dozen small practice size tube amps from the 1960's.    This circuit is very bare bones in that it only has one preamp tube and one output tube.  The tubes for this amp are still cheap and readily available.  It is sort of like a tabletop tube radio from 1950.  There is another version of this amp with a 10 inch speaker and Tremolo - this one has an 8 inch speaker and just volume and tone.

If you want to see a whole bunch of Teisco amps from back in the day check out this photo archive on Flickr (be aware that the Sano amps in his pics are not made by Teisco)

MELODY #61 TEISCO TUBE AMP

Cleaning out the man cave, another project untouched. Its an 1960's Melody #61 Tube amp. I believe these to be made by Teisco. It has one tube but is missing the other, in addition the back plate & a knob is MIA & there is some separation on the box (easy fix though) . Its got a cool red & black fleck vinyl cover. I did not power it up, as it was missing its tubes. Cleaning house, as is.

National Model 16 Valco made tube amp in Reno area for $300

This seller is offering a National Model 16 tube amp.  These were made around 1966-67 by Valco in Chicago.  For some reason this one has had the Logo and model name completely worn off of the chrome above the speaker grill where it would normally appear.  Maybe it just faded over time - it has been nearly 40 years.

The Model 16 is a low wattage amp that is sort of a cross between a Champ and a Princeton.  it has a single 6V6 power tube for about 8 watts total but it has Tremolo and a 10-inch ceramic speaker and it comes in a bigger cabinet than a Champ.   You won't get thje pristine cleans of a Fender amp but you will get the signature Valco howl and growl.

Old tube amp for sale, from what Ive found on line is that this is probably a National guitar amplifier. Valco made the amps for National, Supro, Gretsch, Montgomery Wards and others. The transformers are stamped 52467XX so it looks like its a '67, the original 10 inch speaker has been replaced and three caps have been replaced but it still has its two prong power cord. The amp has a working tremolo and souds great, breaks up early like most Valco amps do.

Thanks for looking Call text email 775-***-****

Hendrix substitutes "Kiss This Guy" for orig lyric in live video of Purple haze

I'd always wondered about this lyric and this video clearly shows that Hendrix got a kick out of mixing it up live - in this BBC version (which is an amazing performance) Jimi clearly says "'scuse me while I kiss this guy" and points at either Noel Redding or Mitch Mitchell while laughing.  Check it out at 3:34 on the video.

JimiHendrix Voodoo Chile on a traditional Korean Instrument - This Will Blow Your Mind!

I stumbled across this video and it blew me away.   This is seriously the best version of Voodoo Child I've ever heard without vocals.  Simply amazing.  Listen to the whole thing to hear some of the most incredible distorted vibrato notes ever.  This changed my opinion of traditional Asian music forever. - JC

Lafayette 60's tube amp in Hollywood for $60

This is a seller after my own heart; he seems to understand the real appeal and market for an item like this and isn't trying to over-hype the amp or over-price it either.  That is a rarity in this day and age.

You gotta love the fact that this tiny little 5 watt tube combo amp is designed with a circuit that includes both reverb and a tremolo (with two knobs - Intensity and Speed).     Leave it to the Japanese in the early 1960's to give you the maximum number of knobs for your hard earned dollar. Amp model is 99-9141WX.

Update:  I actually found a video on Youtube of a guy playing this exact model of amp.  Sounds pretty darn good - the Tremolo is sweet.  And the amp has a nice basic breakup that works well for its size.  See below.

1960'S LAFAYETTE 99-9141wx TUBE GUITAR AMP : THREE TUBE AMP : 1 - 6BQ5 (EL84), 2 - 12AX7. 8" SPEAKER. THIS AMP IS A PROJECT AMP. IT HAS SOME ISSUES, NEEDS

TLC & SOME TECH KNOWLEDGE, PLAYS A BIT, BUT CUTTING OUT. MIGHT BE A TUBE, I DON'T KNOW. I GOT TOO MANY OTHER AMP PROJECTS. CHECK OUT THE WRITE

UP ON THE LINK BELOW TO GET AN IDEA ABOUT THIS AMP.

CHECK OUT THIS REVIEW/INFO ON TNE AMP: http://dustyoldamp.wordpress.com/tag/lafayette-99-9141wx/

The conventional wisdom on Lafayette guitar amps is that they were manufactured by Univox and then rebadged. I've ran across examples of this in photographs but I believe that the same Japanese factories that made Univox amps for Univox also made Lafayettes rather than Univox specifically making Lafayette units.

In either case, both Univox and Lafayette tube amps from the mid 1960′s were considered at the time to be cheaply made and inferior to such industry leaders as Fender, Marshall, Vox, Gibson. They were intended for younger players in the "student market" and in that ambition, they were pretty successful.

1961 National Glenwsood Model 90 on eBay - may go cheap - it's in San Diego!

This eBay seller is offering a National Glenwood Model 90.  It is a very minimal listing and he doesn't even say if it works but the price is running pretty low (the $125 shipping cost showing on the listing may be the cause of that).  If you live in or near San Diego this could be a good deal if the seller will let you pick it up.

The last Glenwood Model 90 that sold on eBay went for $650 and it had later ceramic Jensens, though that amp was in good working condition - it even had a youtube video.  This one appears to have original 1961 Jensen P12N Alnico's (I am dating this amp a 1961 based on the date code I can see on the one speaker).

Of course this amp could be DOA.  no way to tell from the listing.

1970's Yamaha SG-80T in Garden Grove CA for Sale - Rare 70's MIJ Yamaha

Came across this Yamaha for sale on CL here in SoCal and it is a model I've never seen before.  I know the Yamahsa SG series for the 80's and they are highly prized by Fusion players and the other SG models I know from the 70's are the "Samurai" Surf guitars with their machete headstocks.  Apparently Yamaha also made this line of guitars from 1972-1974 and it included the SG-20, SG-40, SG-45, SG-60 and SG-80.  The "T" models also include a Tremolo arm.  The 20 and 40 appear to have been bolt-ons and the 60 and 80 have a German carve and set-in neck.  The SG-45 has a fully bound maple-capped body somewhat similar to the later SG-1000 and SG-2000 though it is still a single cut with a shape like these.

I don't know what happened to this one but all the knobs have been changed (to what look like vintage stereo or ham radio knobs) and for some absurd reason the owner has added a metal hook to the lower bout that looks like something made to hang a plant (?). Seriously?  WTF?  I guess this was a permanent "wall-hanger" and he was too cheap to buy an actual guitar hook.

Anyway if you look at the 1972 Catalog page I found you will see the neat collection of controls on this baby;  they include bass and treble tone controls as well as a five position tone switch (similar to a Gibson Varitone I suppose) and something called a "tone boost" switch (?).   Definitely a blast from the past.

These guitars are supposed to have beautiful C-shaped necks.  There is a video on youtube of a guy playing a bunch of different improvs on one of these guitars with a looper pedal.   To watch it click HERE.

Late 1950's Danelectro Centurian 15 watt tube combo on eBay for $299 BIN - Wow!

This Danelectro Centurain looks like it is all original to me.  This model is part of the much coveted E-Series of Danelectro amps built when they were still using mostly JAN grade components at the Neptune, NJ factory.  You can tell this is an E-series because it has the separate preamp section on the top connected to the power amp section with that thick cluster of wires.

These Centurian's sound great for guitar and unbelievably good for harp.  That deep basket CTS Alnico 12-inch speaker would be very hard to replace so it is great to see the original there.

I can't believe nobody has jumped on this yet for $299 BIN + shipping but maybe they were saving it for you LOL!
