Good deals can be had when Guitar Center does their "Price Drops" and has weekend sales like this Memorial Day Weekend. Here are a fe examples if you are in the market for a nice SG.
The SG Classic with P90's is a very good deal at $549. Sweet bound neck on these guitars and of coure the P90's kill!
This 1999 oxblood SG is a heck of a lot nicer than all the Faded SG's you see everywhere and it is only $599 right now.
And finally the '61 Reissue is the SG to have if you can afford it and this one is a very good deal at only $899.
You can see these online under the Used Gear on GC's website or call the individual stores directly. GC ships guitars all over the country for very cheap.
Note: I am not associated with Guitar Center in any way.

Teisco K2L in nashville for $250
Frequent readers know that this is one of my fave Teiscos since it can be quite playable and looks super cool. I think that Omar Rodriguez from Mars Volta has played one (along with his Signature Ibanez Jet King). Sharkfin guitars rule.
Note: He has it listed as a K4L but it is a K2L (only 2 pickups obviously).

Gibson SG1 in Minneapolis for $375
These SG1's are pretty cool guitars from the early to mid 70's, a period when Gibson was trying to cut costs so they changed the layout and top loaded the electronics. Hard to tel in pic but that should be a black "Mini-Humbucker." Nice basic Vintage USA made rock guitar.
Don't confuse this with the SGX that Gibson releaed in the late 90's. This is a 35+ year old guitar.

Beware Bogus eBay Scam Listings like this one - 1960 Fender Stratocaster Beautiful Clean Vintage Strat opening bid $3500 - sold for $5045
Dear readers, be alert and aware that there are unscrupulous criminals out there trying to get your $$$ by offering you the "Guitar of your dreams" for an unusually good deal. Like this $30K original 1960 Strat for only $5K.
Unlike the fake Chinese Les Paul copies for sale on CL, you can't detect these scams by examining the photos but by looking for clues in the wording of the ad. You also have to look "behind the listing" at the seller. In this case, an inactive eBay account was highjacked (probably using a PW they got by sending the real account holder a bogus email asking them to sign in to eBay for some security reason)
A quick check of the "sellers" history shows a woman who usually sells shoes and other clothing items - and that her eBay account had been inactive for over 6 years. That is an immediate red flag. The other clue is that this obviously well informed guitar owner would b selling their vintage 1960 Strat for $5K or less - NOT!
A quick Google search for a few of the phrases showed the listing and photos were swiped from a London CL ad from back in March 2011. This actual guitar is not even in the USA.
So as usual - if it looks "too cheap to be true" then it is probably a scam! Don't get hooked by gear lust and lose $$.

* Note: When I checked this seller’s feedback I saw that she normally sold only shoes and women’s clothing items and that the account had been inactive since 2005 – I would assume that an eBay con artist has hijacked her account and is selling these two vintage guitars without having them.
Here was the description of the 1960 guitar – no bids. BTW same seller had a 1961 Strat listed at $5000 and seemed to get 9 bids but they were all “private party identify protected” bids. Most likely from shill ophony bidding accounts set up by the seller.
When I Google searched for some specific wording in the listing I found a Craigslist UK listing from March 2011 that had identical phrasing:

Here is the eBay Listing
I have owned this 1960 Stratocaster since 1972. It is in beautiful, vintage condition-well played and well cared for, with original finish. The neck is a very comfortable C shape with a nicely broken-in Brazilian rosewood fretboard and original frets--the crowns are worn flat (bends forever) and are nice and level; the guitar feels very sensual to play, as only a well played instrument can. I was always very protective of the back of the neck--no significant dents or dings--most of the finish is still there. The guitar is marked 11/60 in the trim cavity and 12/60 on the end of the neck. The electronics are original--the 3-way switch knows the in-between positions; the pots operate smoothly (they're marked 304-6045); the original pickups sound great, with the vast array of vintage Strat tone.
The plastic is in beautiful, vintage condition; pickguard is green, slightly shrunken (the neck pickup tilt makes the E string sound a high E when fretted on it!); the back cover has a hairline screw-hole crack on one corner (top-treble side). Everything on the guitar is original, except the tuning machines were replaced with reissues, in the 80's, but the original ferrules and screws are installed and the original Kluson Deluxe tuners are in the case, with the original chrome bridge cover. There is a small area, under the back cover, where the finish is blemished from removing my name (approx.3/8"x3"--very insignificant and completely covered--see pic's). The guitar weighs 7lbs.9oz. It comes with the brown Fender tolex case it came with, when I bought it (the case was retired in the 80's--it's worn but attractive). This is not a Stratocaster case (it's a Jaguar or Jazzmaster case), but because of the mutual wear they had when I acquired them, I suspect this is this guitar's original case. I retired the guitar to my home in 1995, when it got to be too valuable to haul around to gigs. This guitar is a sweetheart--a great looking, sounding and playing, quite collectible, pre-CBS slab-board Strat. It was recently serviced and set-up by my local luthier.
Buyer to contact Seller within 24 hours of auction closing. Payment to be made within 7 days of auction closing. I don't accept paypal. Serious bidders only please.

1930's Supertone Standard Sized guitar in Nelson NE for $150
The seller is listing this as a Parlor Guitar but with 19 frets and a 14 inch lower bought this is more of a Standard. Looks like Mahogany but may be Birch. I wish I could get a better look at that Bridge. Looks too wide. It may be a replacement.

This guitar was made by Harmony in Chicago, for Sears Roebuck. This is a very rare and hard to find guitar today. Supertone was sears musical instrument name brand before changing it to Silvertone. This parlor guitar body and neck are in good condition for being over 70 years old. The body does not have any cracks. It needs strings and one tuning peg needs replaced I am told these parts are still available online. The guitar is 38 inches long, and measures 14 inches wide and is 4 inches thick. 19 frets, and comes with a case. I am firm on my price of $150. Ph 415 672 0821

1965 era Old Kraftsman, made by Kay I believe. Very similar to Harmony Bobcat and Vanguard. This is in very good condition, neck is straight, fretboard shows minimal wear, pickups are good and hot, pots are clean with no static crackle, tuners keep it in tune. Everything is original, but the trem bar is AWOL. Very cool guitar, fun to play.

Guitar Collection for sale in Norman OK - some neat 60's lower end stuff
This seller seems to have the same affliction that plagues many of us - he can't say no to a good deal on a cool funky guitar. Apparently he's come to the end of his journey (unless he has a whole lot more guitars than what he is showing here).
Personally I am intrigued by that Single-Cut semi-hollow electric in the middle row and his 2nd ad below.

Front Row:

14.) 50-60's Jackson Parlor Guitar
15.) 60's Harmony/Silvertone Parlor Guitar
Heres some more guitars from my collection that I would like to sell. The black electric guitar is a Kay Vanguard project with matching Kay Vanguard amplifier (amp works just fine) $200 obo, The sunburst semi-hollowbody is a mystery to me, I think it may also be a Kay, not sure though. Its is also a project guitar, $200 obo. Also have the three parlor guitars too, the two sunburst ones are Silvertones and the natural colored one is a jackson. All three are made in the USA and play great, which is hard to find in these older parlor/blues guitars. Asking $65 a piece on the Silvertones, $85 on the Jackson, the Jackson is missing tuners, but the action was great when it was strung, its a very high quality guitar, has an adjustable neck.

Fender American Vintage 70's RI Strat at GC in Nashua NH for $449
Unless the listing on the Guitar Center Used Gear site is an outright lie this should be a Fender American (USA) Vintage RI 70's Stratocaster with altered pickups (looks like a Seymour Duncan or Bill Lawrence Rails pickup in the neck position and a Fender or other type Humbucker in the bridge).
I will admit the mismatched pickups make this Strat look UGLY - and brown ain't the prettiest color to start with. But the pickup covers can be easily switched. And brown is very much a legit vintage 70's color for a Stratocaster.
This price was just dropped from $649 to $449. Unless there is something else wrong with it this looks like a good deal.
Guitar Center will box and ship guitars anywhere in the USA for about $20 (I've done it with them before).

Carvin X60 tube combo amp in LA area for $200
Carvin is a very old and well established USA amp maker based in California. The X60 has a good reputation - nice clean channel and excellent spring reverb and a very useable overdrive channel. Make sure you get the footswitch with it.
This amp would have originally had White Chickenhead knobs on itand those are very easy to find and very cheap (personally I have a bag full of them in my parts drawer).

3 Beltone (Teisco) small tube amps in Detroit area for $175 each
Many people think that Beltones were made in Canada (ike Garnets) since they were sold there but they are Japanese amps from Teisco. The same amps were sold here in the USA as Melody brand in the 21950's and 1960's. These are low wattage and the preamps are minimal gain so they are for clean playing unless you use a boost or OD pedal in front but they will never, I repeat never sound like a Tweed Fender.
The most desireable of the Beltone's in probably the AP-24 since it has a 5Y3 rectifier and a pair of 6BQ5's. But the AP-14 and other low wattage models are okay too. The best thing about these amps are the looks; they just look great. Perfect if you want to keep a little guitar amp in your bedroom or ofice and can feel free to crank it up anytime.
No pics on the listing but hee is a link to some Beltone photos on the internet. The one I posted is a file copy off Flikr.

I'm selling three early 1960's Low wattage Belltone tube amps. Compared to my blackface Champs, I'd say these are about 4 or 5 watts. All three have the same circuit, but have different speaker configurations. Each have a Volume, Tone and Tremelo on/off/speed controls. Each have a jack to turn on/off trem with a footswitch. All three are in GREAT SHAPE. The grey tolex model is slightly older and has slight differences. It has 2 alnico 8" speakers. The red amp has 1 8" alnico speaker. The white & tan amp has 1 10" alnico. These amps are like they were put in a closet and never played. Great shape. Only wear is the Grey amp's leather handle is dry and starting to crack a tiny bit. These amps have never been opened up and are ALL ORIGINAL including tubes, which have little use. Each still has the tube chart inside the cab also. I am asking $175 each as these are like time capsules and are very obscure amps I bought in Canada about 10 years ago. I am firm on my price. Very cool low wattage amps in great shape.
You can contact me @ (248)259-0757 Thanks

1950's Silvertone Archtop in Seattle for $175
There are hundreds of Harmony and Kay archtops out there for sale but occasionally one really catches my eye. Based on the headstock logo design this one should be circa 1951-56 (and that model number 696-6751 leans toward 1951). It is a lovely looking instrument. Those Kluson Deluxe tuners look original and so does that pickguard which makes this an exceptional find in what should be nice playable shape.

I don't know much about guitars, but thought this looked cool and bought it at a thrift store. It's a vintage Silvertone hollow body in really nice original shape. Everything seems to be in order functionally according to my guitar-playing friends. Aesthetically, the original finish is in remarkable shape with only some small scratches here and there. The clear finish does have some light crackle texture typical of old finishes. The neck is in good shape with some very slight separation from the body and just a few small dings. $175 OBO

Fender Twin Reverb II 105w Tube Head in Columbus OH for $425
Cool All tube head from the Paul Rivera design years at Fender. Pair this with a nice 4x12 cab and you've got a heck of a stage amp. Or use it with a smaller 2x12 setup for portability. This one sounds like it has a rockin' history.

Ancient Classic - Sounds great! I bought it used in 86. I suspect it’s a mid-70s beast. It’s been in storage for the last 12 years (actually forgot I had it). Has seen very limited use since last re-tubed. This thing's got some stories to tell. Opened up for The Knack in 93, and Eric Burden a year later. Shared the stage with Spoonman, and rehearsal space with The Screaming Trees. Its last speaker cab was a set of Vintage 30's previously owned by Alice in Chain's Jerry Cantrell. And it’s played every seedy dive in downtown Seattle during the Grunge heyday. Now this work horse is ready to open its next chapter. Maybe that will be with you!

2010 Fender American Strat Special in Knoxville TN for $650
I was very impressed when Fender chose to release a USA made Strat last year that could retail for $899 (same price as the Mexican made Classic Player series). Here is a chance to get one for even less - and the upgraded Tortoise pickguard gives this a vintage 70's look too. Check it out:

2010 American Fender Strat Special. Pretty much flawless, no dings, dents, or scratches. Played a couple of times but never anything to amount to anything. It has the original texas special pickups, but the pickguard has been changed from white to tortoise shell, it looks better in my opinion, comes with gig bag. Call 606-391-8198

Model number 731-00111. Small-bodied, all solid wood construction, arched back. Shown next to full-size Seagull for comparison. Made in West Germany. Straight neck, plays great with low action and room to lower it more if necessary. 63 years of playing has left a lot of dents scratches and playwear, but guitar is structurally sound. Luthier owned, I replaced the first three frets and dressed the rest so they are like new. The guitar needs nothing but a new loving home. $125 or best offer. Call 612-306-8444

Here is a very nice Alvarez 12 string for only $100 in the Southbay area of Los Angeles. Look up this model and you will see it is very well reviewd and usually sells for quite a bit more. Solid spruce and maple with some nice accent details. I believe this also has the built in pickup.

Univox Hi-Flier Bass in LA area for $250
I was always under the impression that the Hi-Flier Basses were all short scale models - extremely light and easy to play (especially for guitar players switching to bass). But this one appears to be a full scale. Perhaps I am mistaken. This 1972-1975 era model has the humbuckers which gives it more "thump" than the earlier single coil version.
