Harmony H306A in Chicago for $359

Here is the other amp's big brother - a circa 1963 Harmony H306A. This amp is similar to a Fender Tweed Deluxe (though probably not as loud). Two channels - dual 6V6 output tubes and tube driven tremolo. VIntage Tone. And you can jump the channels to give it extra crunch. It looks to be in decent original shape.

Beautiful Antique Parlor Guitar in Dayton OH for $95

This listing is over 6 weeks old so I am sure it is long gone - but I wanted to reproduce the photos here to show what is still turning up out there.

Just look at the gorgeous craftsmanship of this guitar - and I would not be the least surprised if it did turn out to be at least 100 years old - this certainly looks like 19th century guitar-making to my untrained eye. I wish we could see the inlay around the body as well but one glance at those hand-shaved ebony bridge pins - slab ebony fingerboard and bone (tusk?) tuning keys leaves me aching that I didn't see this within a day or two of it first being listed.

I have no idea if this is anywhere near playable condition - it may require many hours of luthier work to bring it back to pristine playing condition - but it is a beautiful specimen from days long gone.

I have what I believe is called a parlor guitar. I believe it is over 100 years old and maybe much older. Some highlights are very ornate decoration around the sound hole made by hand of mother of pearl. real inlaid wood trim around edge of guitar. Ebony bridge with wood pegs with mother of pearl inlay.tops. Genuine bone tuners in good shape. Issues : age cracks on top sides and back are good though. 2 frets missing, nut missing, neck not straight, that's about it. no name or numbers on guitar. CALL 937-************ NO TEXTING. CASH ONLY

Holiday (Harmony) Silhouette in Lexington KY for $325

This Harliday Silhouette has been stripped down to the wood and still looks pretty darn nice. This should help rest all the accusations that these vintage USA electrics were made with "plywood" bodies. Looks like either Alder or Ash to me.

These are fun little players - just ask Sufjan Stevens.

60's guitar I believe to have been sold under the logo "Holiday" but I can't be 100% certain.
Regardless, it is a Harmony product that was generally called a Silhouette.
The pick-ups alone on this guitar are worth the price of admission. DeArmond "Mustache" p/u's. They scream.
Body has an interesting and not unattractive "Mary Kaye" sort of vibe as that's what was under the 45 coats of after-market goo I removed.
Pics show missing one knob and the selector switch-tip. Guitar now has all control knobs - switch-tip still gone.
Otherwise all hardware is present and in very good condition.
No case.

1970's Gibson SG at GC in Dallas for $999

This SG is a bit of a mystery to me but it looks like an excellent deal just the same. Sure it's not a '61 but it's not $4500 either. Check it out.

It certainly could be a 1973 SG Special since it has the Black Mini-Humbuckers but the Special that year had Dot Inlays on the neck - this one has Trapezoids. So the neck makes it seem more like an 1973 SG Standard. It also lacks the wide rectangular Tunematic bridge that all the 1973's had - this one looks like a standard ABR-1. Which makes me lean towards it being a 1975. But the knobs are more like a 1969-1971. However those type knobs did come on the SG Deluxe (a very different model) in 1973. This Guitar lacks the Crown inlay on the headstock - indicating it could be a Special from 1973 or 1975 - but those neck inlays don't fit.

COnfused? Welcome to my world. Since all SG Standards from this period had "Super Humbucking" pickups not the Mini-hums I am pretty sure we can consider this to be a Special. But what year?

If the Serial number starts with a "0" its a 1973 for sure but knowing the serial number might only confuse us further. Gibson SN's from this period are a mess.

A real Teisco worth buying - ET-460/ K-4L Sharkfin in Spokane WA for $250

Now here is a Teisco worth owning and playing. Nice looking ET-460e / K-4L. The type I'd buy if I had any more room at the Inn.

This guitar puts that ET-440 to shame - nice playing neck - superior pickups - beautiful design and all original parts. it is nice and shiny and in well-cared for condition. Not a vintage Strat but a decent collectible guitar.

Buy it. Keep it. Play it. Enjoy it. But when you are done, don't sell it to some freakin' idiot on eBay for 3X what you paid - pass it along to another real guitar player for a reasonable sum and know there is a place waiting for you in Rock n' Roll Heaven.

Idiots on eBay are mindless drones - Sell them your useless crap!

Just when I thought things couldn't get more absurd in the VIntage Guitar Market comes this hapless trend of overpaying for junk guitars. Now we all know the Teisco Spectrum 5 is a rare and collectible guitar (now selling in the $1500 - $2000 range regularly) but apparently the mindless flailing masses of eBay auto-snipers are too lame to realize that a Teisco Spectrum 4 is a completely different guitar and light years away in value and collectibility.

Why am I so bent out of shape? Because having a bid-fest that results in a $950 selling price for a Teisco Spectrum 4 just fuels the perception that the lower end of the guitar collecting mob are idiots - something I struggle to defend.

Anyone who has ever plugged in and tried to play one of these 4 pickup plywood Knobzilla's knows they have scant resemblance to any sort of professional grade guitar.

May God have mercy on our souls.

Marshall 5210 JCM800 Combo amp at GC in Whitehall PA for $99

The 5210 is a very well built Solid State amp from the days when Marshall was still putting effort into making serious professional Quality small Combo amps (i.e prior to the ValveState Series in 1992). The idea of being able to get a serious British Built Marshall Combo for the same price as a new TubeScreamer is mind boggling - and if you think a SS amp will automatically sound like crap - think again. These amps are built to rock.

I found a Video on Youtube to display the general feel and tone of this model - it doesn't hurt that the guitarist is a solid player either.

1950's Futuramic Archtop Acoustic in Minnetonka Minn for $225

These are sometimes identified as Kay Holiday Futuramics but I am pretty sure this one is a Harmony Product. Either way it is as cool and likeable as many of the other Art Deco and Space Age designs that came out of those Chicago factories.

This one looks to be in very good shape which is the key with these - since they are really all about the looks. FYI - the necks on these guitars are rumoured to be the thickest you can possibly imagine - so keep that in mind before buying sight unseen. I have a Regal archtop with what I consider a "baseball bat" neck and these are supposedly even thicker.

The backs of these are TV Yellow just like the front and the tuners should be 3 on a strip Klusons if they are original.

Note: I cannot be held responsible if you contract some bizarre toxic condition from rubbing up against the copper-tinged paint playing this 50 + year old USA made guitar.

Very sharp looking Holiday "Futuramic" archtop and archback guitar in very very good condition. Rare yellow top and back with equally rare copper sides, neck and pickguard. Neck is straight, action is nice and low, neck heel is solid, frets are fine, fretboard shows no wear and is freshly oiled, no splits or cracks. All of that and it sounds really good too. Holiday was a house brand that was distributed by Montgomery Wards and Alden Department stores, and were made at various times by Harmony, Kay and Danelectro. I figure this was probably built by Harmony. It's a real nice guitar. That finger in the last photo is not pointing, it's just balancing the guitar so you can see the string height and neck butt. Includes a fairly beat old brown softshell case that may be the original.

Univox Pro Verb U3R Spring Reverb Unit in Van Nuys CA for $75

I am a fan of Solid State Spring Reverb - the way I figure it, if you are playing through a tube amp and the Reverb is going in the front it really doesn't make a difference if it is tube or not (a Fender Twin's tube driven reverb runs off the phase inverter so it is after the pre-amp and before the output transformer).

These Univox Pro Verbs were made in Japan in the late 60's/early 70's and they have two input channels with seperate levels and a depth control. They sound good until they get too noisy and this one is apparently still quiet so you are in luck.

Surf purists will cringe but I have a little Teisco made solid state spring reverb that I love because it is very trashy and garage rock sounding - similar to the Cardboard Danelectro units they put in the Silvertone 1484's. It is a great little unit and it was very cheap.

Personally, the best Reverb I ever heard was an Orban rack mount spring unit and it was solid state. Tube units are great if you are trying to replicate Vintage Surf Guitar sounds but these other units can be very useful for a variety of tones as well. Purists will just have to cringe.

1968 Teisco WJ-3L in Sacramento for $100

With prices going up on Teiscos it is time to stock up. Here is a 1968 WJ-3L that's been stripped and rewired without two of the knobs (probably to reduce noise and improve the circuit). It has a gold (not striped) pickguard, no headstock logo and what looks like a Gibson style tunematic bridge. Not a collector but she should be good to go for garage rock.

1974 Mossman Flint Hills 12-string in Iowa for $600

Mossman guitars are some of the finest hand-made acoustic flattops in the world. The fact this is a 1974 tells me the back and sides are made from all solid Brazilian Rosewood.

S.L. Mossman died in 1999 but his legacy lives on in these amazing hand crafted instruments. At their peak output his shop only made 8 - 10 instruments per day so these are rare and prized for their beauty and tone. This one has some minor repairs but should still be a fine collectible player.

Truetone (Kay) Speed Demon Triple in Santa Monica, CA for $250 - Hey HUNTER check it out!

This post is for a reader named HUNTER who called me a week ago asking about a Kay Speed Demon. here you go - this one has some cosmetic issues but it kinda looks really cool. The pickups all work which is the really important part.

The relic-abuseed look of this guitar reminds me of the heavily trashed Kay electric that Jack White plays in the movie "It Might Get Loud." This ain't no beauty contest.

I have a 1950s Truetone Speed Demon its a beautiful guitar but its collecting dust and I rather is be played and used. They usualy go for 1000+ but just don't think this guy will go that much. Someone some where down the line through the years thought they should try sanding it but they stoped thank goodness. Someone that is going at restoring guitars can probably fix the paint in a jiff. All the wiring and pickups are good got them checked out it sounds like a angel. All the orignal parts are on it I have a aftermarket pickguard for it but didn't put it on so if your intrested email me maybe we can talk about a deal.

1977 Fender 135 Watt Twin Reverb w/ JBL's and Roadcase in Austin for $600

These Ultralinear Twins from the late 70's are very loud. We're talking about a quartet of 6L6 output tubes into heavy duty JBL Orange Frame speakers - immense power.

This can be a great basis for many tones if you play out live with a band. But forget about it for the studio or home. These amps on 2 are louder than a Deluxe Reverb on 10.

Oh yeah... if you play keyboards these sound incredible with a Fender Rhoades. Punchy, sharp, full and rich. Amazing.

Serial # A758067

135 watt master volume twin with orange frame JBL's. This thing is a clean monster! I hate to see it go but I have too many large amps and need to clear some space.
Everything is original (that I know of), had a cap job last year at Austin Amplifier.

Comes with "Roadie" road case. The amp is in great condition with just a minor pull in the front grill cloth and a couple of < 1 inch tears in the tolex. One of the rear side supports that the
baffle board screws into came off but this could be fixed and I do have the baffle board. Has lived in its road case since I purchased it 4 years ago.

Footswitch is included however it has some issues and will probably need to be replaced. I do have the other serial # metal tag for the right speaker it came unglued.

Stella (Harmony) 12 String in Albuquerque for $75 - Leadbelly fans!

This is very similar to the 12 string that Leadbelly used on some of his classic recordings (though his was an earlier model and many believe it was pre-Harmony). This one is most likely a model H922 from the 1950's - Harmony made slothead Stella though it could possible be an H912 (later 1960's) that somehow ended up "with a star." Nice price even if it needs a lil fixin'.
