Kay Vanguard in Portland OR for $100

I just posted one of these about a week ago that was a good deal for $200 - well here is a black one that is even cheaper in Portland.  Only $100 bucks!   That output jack is a little ugly but I am sure you could manage a better fix for very little money.   These fly way below the radar but you still see dealers selling the original ones in excellent shape for a small mint.  I've seen these at GC Vintage for $1K+ recently.

I've never actually seen one of these in black so this could be a refin - or maybe just a less common color.
BTW those Kluson Tombstone tuners are not the originals for this guitar but I am sure they work just fine.

Kay electric guitar. Not all original - input jack and G tuning peg have been replaced (repairs done a few years ago at Old Town Music). The new jack later came loose and is now held securely in place with much packing tape. Still, sounds good and has plenty of character.

Teisco ET-200 Tulip in Phoenix AZ area for $50

When I talk about good deals on CL for vintage guitar buffs this is the type of deal I am talking about.  I've owned quite a few Teisco's over the years and they are fun little guitars - though few are what I would call "pro level".  However, they are lots of fun to have around.  This is a perfect example - a 40+ year old two pickup electric guitar for the price of a stomp box.  I mean c'mon... Just buy it already!!  haha

Emmons Mid-60's Pedal Steel in CA for $500

Let me preface this by saying I am not any kind of expert on Lap Steels (actually I am not even an expert on electric guitars in general) but I do know that the Emmons (aka Buddy Emmons) brand steels are well-known as good steel guitars (along with Sho-Bud).  This one looks like a junior model since it only has 3 pedals and I don't think it has any knee levers (I really can't tell from the pics).  But the mid 1960's models of steels are very much in demand so this may be a good deal if you know them better than me.  Good luck.

Marshall JCM2000 TSL Half Stack in Cleveland for $700

You won't see me highlighting Marshall Stacks too often on this blog (just not my cup of tea) however, this one is a good deal and, of course, Cleveland Rocks!

There is a ton of info online about the TSL and this is the 100 watt version it is a monster.  These retailed in the $2K range new and I don't believe Marshall is making them anyomre - this was sort of their flagship model about 5 or 6 years ago. To put this deal in perspective as far as the cost-value, back in 1980 when I graduated from High School the average used Marshall Head and 4x12 cabinet generally cost about $700 and that was the old JCM800.  Of course this is not a Marshall 4x12 - it is a Peavey cabinet - but those Celestian GH12-80's should be a a good match for this head.

Holiday (Harmony) Stratotone in Seattle WA area for $250

This is a nice looking Holiday branded Stratatone made by Harmony circa 1962-63.  These single pickup versions are less in demand because they don'[t resemble a Les Paul but I can attest that the pickup output and placement on these is just about perfect for slide - and the chambered body gives ist a nice twangy resonance - these sound great into a overdriven low wattage tbe amp - but you probably don't want to put a high gain pedal in front - the pickups are full range - that's what makes them sound so great for slide.

Holiday was a catalog brand harmony made for a now defunct retail sotore - just like Airline was for Montgomery Wards and Silvertone was for Sears.

Lovely Silvertone (Valco) Lap Steel in Concord NH for $300

This is a really nice looking Silvertone Lap Steel.  Could be late 1940's or early 1950's - look at that logo!

The art deco Fretboard design has been preserved by a plexi covering and it has all original hardware knobs and "string-thru" pickup.   I can pretty much guarntee you this will sound terrific.  And it is a sweet looker.

Vintage 1960's Newcomb 335 style semi-hollow electric in WA for $400

This Newcomb brand guitar looks very similar to a Harmony H-74 or maybe a Meteor. I seriously doubt Newcomb was building these on their own - most probably a Harmony product.  Newcomb was a succcessful tube amp manufacturer (similar to Webcor, Masco, Bogen, Eico, etc. ).   Those should be DeArmond pickups though it is very hard to tell form the picture.  There is a small chance this could be a product of Japan - since other companies like National had already shifted to Japanese Production by the late 60's.   The block inlays on the fretboard indicate this would have been a fairly high end guitar at the time. The Bigsby is a nice plus for sure.

Yamaha SBG2000 in Jacksonville (Jax Bch?) FL for $450

These SBG2000 models have a rabid following and some consider the early 80's models to be as good or better than the Gibson Les Paul's of the same period.  It's hard to say for sure but these were some of Yamaha's top of the line guitars in the early 80's.  I am not sure when they switched from calling them SG's to SBG's (maybe only for export to the USA)  This is very similar to the guitar that Carlos Santana used to play before he switched to PRS - I think his was a Yamaha SG1500 or something like that.

Anyway I've heard of these guitars selling for well over $1K so this one in FL is certainly a good deal.

The seller seems to be a bit confused - there is no Kahler tremolo in the picture - so be alert that there could be some funny business going on here - I would want to speak wwith the seller directly.

Guitar has a double cutaway configuration, some say it is an SG copy, but the body is more styled like a double cutaway Les Paul would be. It has a three way switch, and the tone knobs tap up to split the coils on the pickups. This guitar is finished in gloss black, with black pickups, and all the metal is gold finish. I would say it has more of a Gibson type neck, but Yamaha has figured out a way to make it really slick, with fat frets, and a perfect feel, the action is incredible.

Finish - Gloss, transparent, Black-top ,with Black Pick ups

Body Style - SBG double cutaway, like a Les Paul with 2 cuts

All gold-plated hardware, showing some wear.

Bridge - Kahler fine-tune able whammy bar

Neck - GREAT, beautiful tight inlays, ebony fret board

Nut ? Possible Kahler Lockable

Made in 1980-83 - Japan

22 frets

Mahogany body - Black top -Black Fade-out finish

Controls - 2 volumes, 2 tones (w/popup coil-splitting), 3 position selector toggle

Pickups ? 2 - Hum-bucker, split-coiled-phased, passive

Set Neck - Black-w/Ebony fret board, glamorous headstock veneer inlay

Considering its age, this 1960s Silvertone Electric guitar is in AMAZING condition! It was a gift from a friend whos family had been passing it down for years...I never use it anymore so to create space in my closet, I've decided to bite-the-bullet and sell the thing...I just tuned it and it still sounds incredible (most of the strings are fresh-as I replaced them last time I played it).
I am asking $70 because I know that if you're a person to collect collectibles, you know that it's worth more than that. The link below is proof that this is what it is...Match those pictures to the one's that I've taken and you decide!

Kay Vanguard - 2 pickup electric in Santa Cruz for $200

These Kay Vanguards are highly under-rated guitars.  To me they sound and play as well as the old Harmony H44's for slide.  Really bright, soulful tone - especially if you put nice heavy strings on it.

If you've never played one of these through an old amp with a slide you really ought to give yourself a treat.

Here's my Kay Vanguard guitar. This thing is totally awesome - super resonant, with incredible swampy blues slide tone. The electronics work perfectly and the guitar is very playable. The frets are somewhat worn down and there are a few buzzy spots on the high strings around the 7-10 frets. It's perfect for slide and has a tone you just won't find with other guitars. There is plenty of wear that you would expect for a guitar of this age, but it's all cosmetic. I've shown pictures of the most significant wear including some finish wear on the back (not a crack!), and an indentation on the fretboard. As mentioned, these are cosmetic issues which do not affect the playability at all. It's my only vintage guitar and I'd love to keep it, but I need the money right now.

Feel free to email me with any questions. Unfortunately, my work schedule makes it such that I don't get home till around 7pm Tuesday - Saturday, so showings will have to be after 7pm.

Sound Projects (Lectrolab) R200B in Buffalo NY for $200

I have never seen this "Telleno" brand label before so it must have been a local Music Store or distributor in NY state.  Anyway this is a Lectrolab R200B.  I normally wouldn't get excited abut one of these for $200 except that this one is in absolutely terrific condition (except for that one gouge on the tolex at the top).  These 1950's 50L6 powered amps don't get all that loud but they are very cool little amps to have around and they have serious vintage vibe.   This is nearly identical to the Valco and Oahu amps of the period.

In case you are interested there is another seller offering an Lectrolab R600 in Texas right now for $400 - that is a really nice amp very similar to a Fender Tweed Deluxe with two channels a great vibrato circuit.

Moserite Semi-Hollow in Tucson for $75 - needs work!

This seller is going out of his way to note how f**ked up this guitar is - though he ways it plays "like a dream" (he must like the famous Moserite neck profile).  It may need to be rewired or the pickups may be dead - though of cousrse you can have them rewound by Fralin for $70 apiece.

I think this model is called the Celebrity but I am not absolutely sure.  Semie Moseley was infamous for his erratic prodcution debacles all over the country - mostly in Bakersfield, CA but also in Oklahoma and Mississippi (I think). Heck I believe he even had some of his guitars made in NJ at one point. And he left wearhouses full of half made guitars and parts behind him wherever he went.  The point is you can't rely on a Moserite being 100% unless it's been well cared for - but that said, when they are good they are outstanding - he really knew how to design and lay out a nice playing guitar.

So you might want to check this one out....

I am not selling any of these items and I cannot facilitate the sale of anything here - so please do not comment or post questions like "Is this still available?" or "I am interested in your guitar please call me, etc." You need to contact the seller directly by calling the phone number listed on the post or by going to the CL listing and emailing them. NEW FEATURE: Click on the title of the CL Listing inside my post to LINK thru to the original Post. If the original CL listing is deleted the item most likely is no longer available. Thanks for checking out my blog and GOOD LUCK!

Please don't call, contact, bother or harass these sellers long after their post is expired. Take for granted if the listing is over 30 days old that the guitar or amp is LONG GONE! Thank you.
