Fender 1965 Super Reverb - Original not Reissue - in Torrance CA for $1050

This seller is offering what many Blues players consider to be the ultimate gigging amp - the original Blackface Super Reverb.  These are great because - despite only being 45 watts - they are pretty darn loud and they start to break up at about half the volume of a vintage Twin.  If you want pristine clean tones this is not the amp for you - but it will growl and sing nicely at non-ear-splitting volumes for years to come.

Keep in mind that the Super is still a big amp - it is tall and can be unwieldy - but the wheels definitely help.

Fender Hot Rod Deville w/ Celestions in Los Angeles area for $325

This seller is offering a pretty good deal on a Hot Rod Deville. This is the 60 watt 2x12 version of the Hot Rod Deluxe and this one has had the original Eminence Speakers changed to Celestion G12H's which are pretty good as well - not exactly the same as Greenbacks but they are better suited to the Hot Rod Deville.

Cosmetics are not great but this looks like more of a players deal than anything else.

Fender Deville 2x12 with Celestion speakers G 12 H - $325 (KoreaTown)

Used Fender Deville 2x12 with Celestine SpeakersThe G12M may have become a classic, but it was the G12H with its heavier magnet that really characterized the sound of '60s rock guitar. Originally available in 2 versions--low resonance for bassists and high resonance for guitarists--both were embraced by guitar players for their unique tonal characteristics.

The Celestion G12H is a perfect re-creation of the low resonance model, right down to the voice coil former material; glue formulations; and vintage, solder-only tag panel. Suitable for use in all cabs, it exudes thick, syrupy tones with a deep, growling bottom end.
I have had this amp for five years the casing has some wear and tear from tourning, other than the casing the amp is fine. To get the best sound It will need new tubes. which will prolly run around $80 easy to put in. the amp comes with a foot switch with two different distortions. This is a great amp for Blues/ and Rock RnB Reggae Jazz.

Fender MIM Sunburst Telecaster in Northridge CA for $200

Magnatone Varsity in Little Rock for $250

This seller is offering a nice clean looking Magatone Varsity for $250.  That is a nice deal and this one looks like ti is good to go.  The 6SJ7 preamp in here is basically the same circuit as an early Fender Tweed Champ.  These amps sound really nice for the apartment or studio.  Worth taking a look (and cool!).

Kay Value Leader in Portland for $150

This guitar is for sale at a guitar store in Portland called the 12th Fret.

$150 is a nice price for a Value leader and this one looks perfectly fine to me.  That pickguard is some kind of a retrofit and the knobs are not original - also the headstock logo may or may not be original.

But you don't buy this type of guitar for its perfect aesthetics or collector value.  You buy it to play that swampy backwoods delta blues and make is squawk!  Check it out:

Jeff Beck Loves His Guitars Just As Much As You Do!

I never realized how much of a guitar nut Jeff Beck is until I saw this video showing a small part of his collection.  He plays some very tasty licks here including some Duane Eddy and Django Reinhardt.

It sure is something to hear Jeff talk about seeing Buddy Holly play live in Croyden when he was a boy while he is holding a 1954 Sunburst Stratocaster.

Stunningly Subtle Musicianship form Jeff Beck

I guess I have been living under a rock because I didn't hear anything about this amazing young Australian gal Tal Wilkenfeld who was playing bass with Jeff Beck for a few years. I stumbled onto this nice HD Recording of them playing at Ronnie Scott's in NYC.  Beck plays some very subtle and expressive notes in accompaniment of Imogen Heap's vocal and Tal lays it down nicely with drummer Ronnie Corbett.

Great Guitar Coffee table Book on Clearance at Barnes & Noble for $9.95

I was at Barnes & Noble today in Westlake Village CA and saw this coffee book on Sale for $9.95.

I am usually sceptical of these sorts of folio sized picture books but a few minutes browsing the pages told me this is a very well researched and photographed guide to the electric guitar.  I learned a few things reading about Ibanez and Burns guitars so I am sure there is quite a bit to learn in these pages.

$10 is cheap for a 320 page over-sized glossy like this one - though it is a softcover.  Makes a nice gift for the vintage guitar geek in your life (like yourself LOL!).   - JC

Note:  I have no connection to this book or its' authors.

Lignatone 1950's small body acoustic in Gadsen AL for $75

I can't say i know anything about these Czech made guitars but the one this seller is offering is certainly in nice shape.   I've heard of the Lignatone's but I've never played one.  Probably similar to Edgmond or Levin guitars though maybe closer to German made quality (i.e. good) than anything else.

Teisco E-100 / Melody JB4 in Nashville for $100

This seller is offering a Melody JB4 which is a relabeled Teisco E-100.  These are some of the coolest Teisco's because they are super simple and have great pickups with their own unique sound.  This particular version has the desirable round neck plate meaning that it is basically a set neck guitar with a little plate there to provide extra support.  In the 1960's Japanese guitar makers didn't think anyone would trust a glued in neck so they added the plates to give extra support.

These are great little slide guitars.  Solid and small bodied.  The tone is not bright like an H44 - it is dark and thick and bassy which sounds surprisingly good for slide.  The necks are also fully bound which is nice.

Fender USA Strat in Nashville TN for $625

This seller is offering this American (USA) Stratocaster for $625 with a nice tweed case. I can't place the exact model or year - he calls it a '79 Vintage look but I don't know what that is - it is not a 70's RI because this one has a small headstock and a 4 bolt neck.

This could be an older modified Highway 1.  They used to have the smaller headstocks and only one string tree.  This one has a single vintage-style string tree and it also has the vintage Kluson-style tuners which could have been upgrades.

I don't think they made a Highway 1 with a black pickguard and black knobs and pickup covers but those could all have been changed as well.   I can't tell if this is the "see-through" finish that came on the Highway 1's.

Of course the best way to tell is to go check it out.  Good luck!

Great looking stage guitar. Like most guitars, you have to plug it in and try it out to really appreciate it. Comes with tweed case. Thanks for looking!

Stella acoustic in Casper Wyoming for $100

This seller is offering a Stella but it is not one of the 3/4 or parlor sized Stella's you see so often.  This one looks about the same dimensions as a Harmony H-62 which would make it an Orchestra size model.  This may be a Stella H-942 and if not it is something similar circa 1965-71.

Expect all solid woods - most likely Birch.  Nice looking vintage USA guitar.

Now the problem is this guitar is in Casper Wyoming - is anyone even close??  LOL.

Vintage Stella acoustic guitar. After some research I found that this guitar was made in the late 60's/early 70's and was constructed with a solid top. Cowboy/Orchestra style so it's bigger and fuller than the parlor style Stellas one usually sees. A steal at $100. LOCAL/CASH ONLY

60's MIJ Audition w/ Gold FOils in Denver for $150

This seller is offering a nice looking Audition electric for $150.  These were made in Japan in the late 1960's and also sold under the Zenon brand label.    This one looks very clean and original.  There is a video of Elvis Costello playing his same model guitar live - he sings into the oh-so microphonic pickups!

I have a beautiful electric guitar made by Teisco in the mid-60s. It's in great condition and has all the original hardware, knobs, switches and tuners, including two awesome-sounding gold foil pickups! This classic guitar has a full scale neck with the typical MIJ smaller body and thinner neck. This beauty is perfect for the collector, smaller players, or for a beginner looking for something with style!

I'm asking $150 or make me an offer to put this under your Christmas tree!

Rare Premier 1958 Hollow Body electric on eBay

These Premiers are quite rare and this one is very pretty.  I love the tailpiece and the fixed adjustable bridge probably helps quite a bit (though it lowers the collectible value).  These are not heavily collected so it is really a matter of taste but I personally like the look and construction of this guitar quite a bit.

Note:  Seller says that he is the original owner and I don't see any reason not to believe him.

2nd Note:  I apologize to my regular readers that I haven't been posting much the last few months.  I've ben busy writing a novel and all my free time has gone to that project.  I am almost finished my first draft so I will be back on this blog more frequently in the new year.   - Jim C.

Vintage 1958 Premier Hollow Body Electric guitar

My Father bought me this guitar in 1958 and I have been playing it ever since.
Back in the old days many guitars were sold by sears and the five&dime stores.
The better instruments were sold in music shops. premier sold side by side with Gibson.

Before I listed it I took it to a guitar repair shop. The owner was amazed at how rock solid and stable this guitar is. He has an online info page.
His name is Dave Fecca Guitar repair of Moorestown NJ.

Everything is original..except..the guitar repair replaced some wiring. Also, twenty years ago I replaced the bridge with an adjustable one which allows for better intonation and action changes.

The binding needs to be replaced if it bothers you, it never did me and it does not seem to affect the sound.

You can't beat these old woods for sound. This is original 1950s when rock first started. Elvis and Chuck Berry was the reason I started playing. Live a little history with this guitar that has given me so much and made me a lot of money playing gigs.

Original hard case and Free shipping.

Good luck bidding. Don't lose out.
