Carvin Vintage 16 tube combo at GC in San Bernardino CA for $259

I don't think I've ever highlighted one of these Carvin Vintage 16 amps so here is my chance. These are dual EL84 amps and they have a switch to drop them to 5 watts so you can crank them up at home. Carvin is a very old USA amp maker (est. 1949) so they know what they are doing. The word on these amps is that they have good useful tone but the cabinet is a little "boxy" sounding so you can either upgrade the speaker (a Greenback would be a good choice) or use the speaker out to another cabinet to "open it up."

There are several Video tone samples available on Youtube.

BTW: GC ships all over the USA for fairly cheap.

McCullough Custom electric in Sherman Oaks CA for $300

Mel McCullough custom builds guitars in Indiana and this seller has one of his early electric models. I've never seen a McCulllough solid body with a Les Paul shape before - he mostly makes Tele style electrics and his well-known nylon string acoustic-electrics like the Clawmaster tribute to Jerry Reed.

McCullough Custom made Electric Guitar in LA area for $300

Mel McCullough is a custom guitar builder out of Indian and this selelr named Darren in the Sherman Oaks part of LA has one of his early electrics. I spoke to Darren about it and the guitar is a Poplar solidbody similar to a Les Paul shape with one of the sweet fast necks McCullough is famous for.

McCullough is most well-known for his nylon string acoustic-electrics like those played by Chet Atkins and Jerry Reed.

Silvertone 1482 tube amp in Minneapolis for $275

Nice looking 1482. Appears to be very clean and has upgrade to 3-prong cord. These Danelectro made amps sound great and are nice and compact. If you could only have one "cheap" tube amp from the 60's in your home studio, this is the one to have.

I emailed the seller, Scott, and he said this amp is still available as of today (Wed June 29, 2011).

Silvertone 1482 vintage tube amp. It is probably from the mid 60's and has great vintage tone. The amp is in good shape for it's age with a 3 prong plug and upgraded speaker wiring. It looks to be a replacement speaker but from the same vintage. I do not know what it is but it sound great and like the other 1482's I have heard. Volume and tremelo on this little monster and both work great.

If you want a nice compact and hand-wired amp for a fraction of the boutique amp prices, this is the one for you.

Come grab it before it hits ebay.

Knox 5 watt tube combo amp in Fresno for $65

Update 6/29/11: The seller responded to my email and told me this amp has 4 knobs w/ Vol, Tone, Speed and Strength. It is mostly likely a 5 watt amp similar to a Harmony H303A with the following tube lineup - 12av6, 12au6 and a 50c5.

**********************************

These Knox amps are extremely basic but are SWEET for home studio work.

The tiny input and output transformers limit the volume on these but you can get some nice tone especially if you replace the way cheap ceramic speaker with a more efficient alnico.

People brag about their "Point to Point" amps today but these are REAL hand soldered PTP. There isn't even an eyelet board.

No pic on the CL listing but they sort of look like the Alamo/Lafayette/Multivox amps of the same period.

I have a Vintage Knox tube amp, it's made in the Usa and is in rather good condition. It has some issues with it's tremolo system. It has a built-in tremolo effect which is very Fender-ish. It sounds great, it has those vintage tones that everyone loves! It's pretty light for a tube amp making it very portable. I hope this will sell fast, I've priced it very low. Univox 1226 Tube Head and Cabinet in Dallas for $350

You'll see pics of these Univox amps on stage with Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page circa 1971-1972. They were hip for a while until Jeff blew his up on stage (like he always did) and he moved on to another amp sponsor. These "Blue" Univox amps still have their fans - and I always thought they looked pretty cool. Check for the original knobs if you find one because the unique style of knobs are almost impossible to replace.

Apparently, the reverb in these is to die for.

1946 Gibson L-50 in OK City for $600

This is just about the best deal I've ever seen on a 50+ year old Gibson. L-50's generally go for somewhere in the $1200-$2K range. Of course, this one is not 100% original, but she looks very nice and I am sure sounds sweet as cherry pie. Seller sounds like a legit player/collector.

A great playing vintage Gibson that I hate to let go, but trying to get down to just a couple of guitars and free up some space around the house. It's not in pristine condition (it's naturally "road worn"), but it's a clean solid, attractive vintage player. Plays nice and easy, with low action, a nice fret job, no rattles, and gorgeous tones. About the best sounding acoustic I've ever played. Excellent for jazz, blues, or country. Has a transitional one-year-only headstock decal (1946) from what I'm told.
Pickguard, tuners, and possibly tailpiece are not original to the guitar, although they are still period vintage.
Bridge is original.
Two older repaired cracks, one on the top under the pickguard, and one on the side on the lower bout. My tech inspected them and says they're stable and solid.
No other issues that I'm aware of, but the guitar, because of its age, is being sold as-is.
Comes with a new Road Runner hard case.
Just a great vintage piece, so please come get it before I change my mind again.
Thanks for looking! Happy to answer any questions as best I can.

Eko Dragon (Italy) 1960's Hollowbody Electric in LA for $300

These Eko Dragons are so rare I just had to list this one when I saw it. I don't think these were ever sold on this side of the Atlantic so it must have made the trip over at some point. Look at the beautiful arched wood body on this (looks like Maple). The seller says it has a lot of replaced parts - but those pickups appear original to me so you never know. All in all this is a nice looking guitar.

Rare bird this guitar! Vintage Eko Dragon from the 1960s. There is a lot of issues with this guitar. Mostly its not a 100% completely original. The tuners, bridge, electronics have all been replaced. Which is why i have this priced so low. Normally these would fetch somewhere around the 600-800 mark.

Gibson Sonex 180 at Lancaster, CA area Pawn shop for $350

I used to own one of these Sonex 180 guitars and I have to say, if you are looking for a nice solid USA made hard rock guitar then you will dig it. Warning: These composite material bodies are heavy as a ton of bricks. This gives the guitar great sustain but be prepared for at least 10 lbs hanging off your neck. It's not a Les Paul but it sort of looks and feels like one when you are playing it and the neck and headstock are all Gibson.

These guitars originally came with Zebra Humbucker pickups - High output "Velvet Bricks" designed by Bill Lawrence. But this one has all black humbucker pickups so they may be replacements - maybe just as good (better?) maybe not.

Line 6 120 Watt Stereo 2x12 Amp in Los Angeles for $98

These Digital Effects loaded amps are not my cup of tea but Line 6 has a good rep and I am sure somebody out there is looking for a good deal on an amp like this.

I have noticed that these Line 6 amps are popular with working players in cover bands that need to have a lot of different pre-set tones and effects at their disposal.

Basically you get a serious Solid State combo amp for the cost of one efects pedal.

Fender Super 60 Tube combo in Los Angeles for $250

These are decent tube amps from the 1980's that have a loyal following. The Fender engineers pushed the power tubes pretty hard in these so the cleans are not "sparkling" but they get nice and crunchy as you turn up the gain or Master volume so pretty good for gnarly rockin' blues or classic rock.

One of the drawbacks of Fender amps from this period is the cheap plastic input jacks and knob stems - but if you don't abuse them they hold up fairly well.

$250 is below average market value on these. Oh and these get plenty loud.

Kay Swingmaster in Long Beach CA for $250

This looks like a "transitional" period Swingmaster from the late 1960's. Kay was still making guitars in the USA at this point but they had started to use an occasional Asian part such as the Vibrato tailpiece on this guitar. The Speedbump pickups are unusual on a Swingmaster - they usually had the Barney Kessel "Kleenex Box" pickups and the neck has the teardrop inlays as most of the Kay electric line of this period. The Red Sunburst is a neat addition - most of the Swingmasters I see are tobacco or brown bursts.

1970 Stradolin Dove Copy in Milwaukee for $150

One of the things about the Japanese acoustics from the early 1970's is that when they made a nice one it was pretty darn nice. This Dove knock-off looks like it could be one of those examples. Not sure why the seller would be using it as a slide guitar - with that big boomy Dreadnought voice - but you'd have to play it to find out. The fit and finish looks decent and if it is (hopefully) a solid Spruce not laminate top then the 40+ years should have served the wood in this guitar well. Take a look:

There is a whole cult of Fuzz pedal collectors out there (you know who you are) but I am not one of them. I have several Fuzz Pedals and they get a little use - but not that much unless I am recording overdubs. But that is just me.

This is a true vintage pedal not to be confused with the Reissue Fuzz Wah that Fender sells now. This model apparently has a CBS Halo Inductor for the Wah - I don't know if that is good or bad to you collectors but that's what I was told. The Seller certainly seems to think it sound great. Just a couple of simple MIM Stratocasters but the red one looks like Torino Red and that is unusual to find with a RW Fretboard - and the white one also looks nice - with a very slim chance it could be a 60's RI (I am taking for granted the headstock in the 3rd photo is from the red one).

Fender 1982 USA Bullet H-2 in La Mirada CA for $250

This appears to be a 1982 Fender Bullet H2. The 2 humbucker version of the USA made Bullet student guitar that replaced the Mustang and Musicmaster. The paint on this one must have been stripped and refinished to natural since all the original ones were either red or cream. It also looks like the original bridge pickup has been replaced.

According to one blogger post the humbucking pickups in these were designed by John Page at Fender by combining two Mustang pickups into one humbucker. Weirdly efficient.

Les Paul Birthday Tribute

In this world of guitar saturation in which we live it is hard to imagine the impact of an electric guitarist like Les Paul in the 1950's - but it was huge. Imagine a guitar virtuosio and multitrack producer having his own weekly 5 minute TV show sponsored by Listerine.

Mind-blowing.

Magnatone Model 111 tube combo amp in Milwaukee area for $150

This is a neat little Student amp from Magnatone and it is in beauuuuutiful condition. These 50C5 power tubes are not loud but with the 12AX7 it should sound pretty darn nice. This is a "widowmaker" so careful how you plug it in but you shoud know that already. I love these little vintage amps for the studio.

Very Clean - clearly it was a closet queen! Leather handle still strong and intact. Tolex is in great shape with only a couple of small missing spots. Grill cloth is perfect.

I believe I am the second owner of this little amplifier after aquiring it 15 years ago. It was recently gone through by a great local tech and capacitors replaced as is normal for an amp this age.

Less than 5 watts. No hums or buzzing.

It's only issue is the Jensen Special Design 8" speaker would need to be reconed, which would run about $60. There is a tear in the speaker from the power corded being stored in the back. The amp works perfectly otherwise, and looks great!

Here's a link with a bit of history - I gleaned that this is a 1961, but the speaker frame serial number indicates 1959.

IMPORTANT NOTE TO ALL READERS

I am reposting items here that are listed on CRAIGSLIST throughout the USA. I am not selling any of these items and I cannot facilitate the sale of anything here - so please do not comment or post questions like "Is this still available?" or "I am interested in your guitar please call me, etc." You need to contact the seller directly by calling the phone number listed on the post or by going to the CL listing and emailing them. NEW FEATURE: Click on the title of the CL Listing inside my post to LINK thru to the original Post. If the original CL listing is deleted the item most likely is no longer available. Thanks for checking out my blog and GOOD LUCK!

Please don't call, contact, bother or harass these sellers long after their post is expired. Take for granted if the listing is over 30 days old that the guitar or amp is LONG GONE! Thank you.
