I hate calling these "parlor" guitars because they really are not. That should be reserved for the older Washburn and Stromberg-Voisinet guitars of the 20's and 30's - the shape is decidedly different. But it has recently become a common practice to refer to any 3/4 sized acoustic as a parlor guitar so I mention it to aid in search engine purposes only.
We all see these 60's Silvertone Ladder Braced 3/4 sized Harmony made guitars being sold for obnoxious amounts so it is always nice to see one in good shape going for what it should. This one has the non-trapeze tailpiece which should give it a nice sold tone for fingerpicking or basic blues. Sort of a poor man's Gibson LGO.

Vintage Silvertone acoustic guitar. I don't know what year it was made or anything else about it, but it's in good condition and it plays well.

I have one of these from out of the garbage, but it needs a few repairs (missing the tailpiece and the fingerboard is seperating slightly).
ReplyDeleteI bought one of these for $12.95 from Sears in the spring of 1964. It was my first guitar. I would get a nickle a day for chocolate milk money for lunch at school, but I saved my nickles dimes and pennies until I had enough to buy this baby. I don't know what happened to it. The last time I saw it - many many years ago, my little sister had painted it a pukey shade of green. It has long since disappeared into oblivion. I have several guitars today, one of which is a really nice Martin, but I'd sure love to have one of these for my "guitar wall". Jembeaux
ReplyDeleteI have one from a Petaluma, California estate in Very Good condition, and I think the original strings, but with a sort of surf-scene painted on the back. Plays nice. I'd sell for $100 plus shipping. I can send photos.
ReplyDeletePaul, if you want to send me the pics I will post them here if it looks like a guitar my readers would be interested in. My email is laphillyboy@gmail.com Thanks - Jim C
