I don't know why people always seem to think these Kays are a Japanese Product - perhaps it is the Bridge/Tailpiece section which was heavily copied by the Japanese - but these Kay Vanguards still have the original 3 screw USA made neck and bodies and those are also original DeArmond Pickups - the same bright single coils they put in some of the Gretsch guitars of the era. An that is what fans call the "bushwacker" headstock.

Beautiful and Rare 1960s Kay brand guitar, probably made in Japan. It's a solid body, red sunburst guitar, with white pickguard, similar to a Vanguard and is right handed. (The images look left handed only because I used my computer to take them.) It's in almost perfect condition and is in the original case. There are a few tiny dings in the paint but nothing major is wrong with the look or finish of it. It comes with a tremolo bar and sounds amazing. There are a couple of dings on the body, but other than that, it looks almost new. The paint job is beautiful. It has three single coil pickups that are chrome with black inlays and screw top, each with tone and volume knobs. Three tone and three volume knobs. Pearl inlays on the neck. No buckle rash, hardly a scratch on it. Tiny surface paint scratch near head. Never been set up as long as I've had it, about a year. Slight buzz on low E string. Just needs a setup. This is a rare and beautiful instrument,
you just gotta see it.
It's awesome. The case is off white and brown. All the snaps work on the case. This would be perfect for someone looking for a clean vintage sound! Looks like it's hardly been played! Call me to see it. Please don't email me asking if it's still available. If it's on here, it's available. 512-902-8600
