The E series (early 1980's) Japan Strats are going way up in price - players realize that with the chaos at Fender USA and loss of the Fullerton Plant in the purchase from CBS many of the Strats were being built in Japan in the mid 1980's. The Japanese guitar makers set a high standard (there is a story about the USA builders nearly crying when they saw how good the Japanese models were). Anyway it all adds up to some darn nice guitars.
Note: It is rumored that the only dfference between the Squier models and the Fender models in 1984-85 was that the Fender models used actual USA made hardware and pickups (shipped over from California) versus the Squiers that used MIJ hardware and electronics.
Here is an E-series MIJ Squier Strat for sale in LA at a very good price.
